...recorded this EP with an ART Pro and Firestudio Project, using Logic Pro 9 and Waves v8. Mic's used: Beta 52(kick) SM57's(toms, guitars) MXL 990 (floor tom) MXL 991 (OH's) AT 2020 (room, vocals) I think the EP turned out well considering the most expensive mic was the Beta52 for the kick! ...U87. You know what doesn't sound like a U87? An AKG 214. Or a Rode NTK. Or an MXL 990. That's because mic selection makes a huge difference. And if it turns out that those AKG/Rode/MXL mics sound terrible on your voice while the U87 happens to be the perfect fit, there's no tape machine/preamp/vintage compressor...
This thread is so enlightening. Soooo.. If I were to remove the Newman badge from my MXL 990, how would I be able to convince anyone it's a high class mic?
