heeello

I'm trying to do a remix for a friend, and am struggling to make it sound proper. I was wondering if you guys had any opinion how I could make it sound better? Please be brutally honest, anything that I'm doing wrong I want to fix but not sure how I could step up my game.

I did this remix by layering sounds over the original and then muting the original track, so the original is rather different than the remix.

(I did a really quick master by adding a little top with a tape emu plugin and then pushing the volume with a limiter.)

I'll be honest, it didn't work for me. To me, this sort of minimalist stuff, when it's really working, has a sort of hypnotic, tingly kind of vibe to it. For me at least, this one didn't get me there for whatever reason. It sounds good enough to me sonically. It's more a composition sort of thing I think.

This can be as abstract sounding as you want, so anything is possible. I'd like to hear slight distortion on the bass and less bland beat. Some kind of pultec like highmid/highend boost would do.

Production-vise, it could get more interesting in the 2nd half, some sidechained pumping would be trendy or it could get more dub-ey with weirder and weirder echoes... something to keep me interested

ah ok, hmm not sure I understand what you are talking about, but hypnotic, tingly vibes are most welcome! perhaps you could give me an example?

thanks, these are good ideas. not sure I like sidechaining though, but that's just me. stronger beat and slight distortion on the bass. actually, i think i put a slight distortion on the bass and kick (i'm at work so i can't open the project right now to check). perhaps i can just increase it.

more interesting second half would definitely work! haha anything to make the track more interesting. I'm gonna have to think about how it would be best to do that.

many thanks for your feedback, guys! I appreciate it.
