Opinions on this mix - really sparse arrangement

Hi, I would like to have some feedback on this mix I´ve been working on.

Different members of the band have given me opposite feedback and input, and after several changes on the mix I am starting to loose some focus.

What do you think of this mix?

Please note that this is not my music, just a mixing job.

I think that's done. Sounds like a finished mix to me.

Only thing I thought is that backing vocals at 2.10 - the 'oohs' - should be louder here. They're on their own there, so effectively they're lead vocals.

Over all very nice.

It does, however, get a little harsh...perhaps 2-3k region on some spots. You can use a desser on the mix buss to solve this problem.

Ok, thank you very much for the input!!!

I´ll try to fix that harshness, I have never tried a deesser on the 2bus!!

Guitars

Understanding it's a pop mix, to me the guitars are a little too low, but my tastes aren't very pop so I'm not sure I should even chime in!

Ok, thank you for your input. More guitars, during the verse or chorus????

2:53 - sounds like 2 different gasps from an overdub? the second really sticking out.

Overall, nice job...

I agree will all the comments thus far, except for me the guitar levels seem fine for a pop production? I do feel though that the stereo image of the guitars could be widened?

And there is definitely a midrange crispness to the whole mix that is a little hard on the ears.

Pro mastering would probably fix it. There's countless options out there for mastering but I always recommend Carl Saff in Chicago. Nice guy, great prices, and superb work. And no, I'm not his brother... ;-)

Again, nice job. Well done

Mix sounds good to me (on ipod headphones).

However I have a real problem with the arrangement! Why doesn't the chorus repeat after the bridge? The chorus is the best bit but we only hear it 2 times.

Seemed like the whole thing needed more for me, but I'd probably try to get the song to sound more aggressive than those here looking for a more commercial mix of the song, so if you're looking for that I'd lean towards their advice...

Hi, the mix is on it's way. It's a cool track also.

I think to start with, the snare could be thicker/punchier/bigger. It's okay
in the intro, but once the vocal appears the smallness becomes more
apparent, and in the chorus VERY much so.

Once this is done, address the rest of the kit and see if it needs the same.
Also, don't forget that the OH's and Rooms mics can really help the snare
in this aspect. The drums need more depth overall. They sound like they're
in a tiny room right now. Do whatever you have to and make it sound like
a larger space.

At least fix the snare hit at 1:44.
It's flamming quite a bit through the bridge and other parts of the song
with the kick drum. This is distracting and should be addressed too.

Bass is nice and tight/consistent, but sounds like it could extend deeper some.
Possibly could be louder but hard to say without other aspects being addressed
first.

Guitars are a bit "fizzy" and lack some aggression and size. Perhaps they're
a bit dull too. Might be more high mids than top end tho. How were they
tracked? Right guitar seems louder than the left.

Do more with the delays on the vocals to give them more space and depth,
especially in the chorus. i.e a 1/4 and a 1/8 delay (to the tempo) of different
types with 30-40% regen. Adjust to taste with the FULL mix playing. In solo it
will sound like way too much. Depending on your workflow automate it through
the verses. (i keep LV for verses and choruses on separate tracks so i can set
FX/EQ etc and not have to automate cause i'm lazy like that. :P )

Here for the gear
Sounds cool man!
I like these sort of mixes. I would maybe bring up the drums a little bit and try to get some more
attitude out of the guitars. The snare flam bothers me a bit.
Actually i would leave the drums, just give the snare some more body. sounds a little thin.
But yeah, the mix sounds good. Nicely done!

I do also agree with a lot of the stuff Captain Hook said.
