Here's my first attempt at recording my piano. The song is I Due Fiumi by Ludovico Einaudi from his "I Gioni" album. My piano is a Kimball baby grand, recorded in my living room using two AKG 214s, onto a Tascam DP-24. So far I've applied no effects or EQ or anything else, and any insights into what it may need are greatly appreciated!

Did a new mix of an older song of ours after spending some time reading about Andy Wallace.

Messed around with it some more.. Guitars mixed way differently (too loud?), but this one also okay in mono. Having a hard time getting the vocals to sit on top though.

Here's a stripped back thing I recorded of my room mate the other night. Curious to see thoughts on it. More or less recorded just to get a demo of a song he wrote but having some fun with it.

He had the headphones blaring so theres tons of click bleed as it stands

I used a ksm27 on everything through a focusrite saffire pro 10 with logic and waves plug ins. Through massey tapehead along with a some neat compressors and limiters on the 2 bus.

Even though this was something we recorded just to nail down an idea in 30 minutes I'd love to get some feedback

I just made this with Ableton and plugins.

This is the single off my bands upcoming EP. Written by all five of us and recorded and mixed by myself. I play drums on the track and sing backing vocals.

Recording in a variety of bedrooms and classrooms on weekends using what little gear we have. Nevertheless we make do and its better than nothing!

Drums

Mapex Drums and Zildjian Cymbals

Kick In - D112
Kick Out - SE2000
Snare - Sennheiser e906
Toms - SM57
Overheads - AKG CS1000, Glyn Johns technique

Bass

Fender Jazz Bass, Ashdown Tube Amp and Bass Big Muff

Blend of DI from the amp and e906 roughly a foot away from the speaker between the edge and centre of the cone

Guitars

First guitarist (playing most of the rhythm parts) used a Fender Jazzmaster and Telecaster with an AC30 with a Vox tremolo, Fulltone Overdrive and Memory Boy.

Miked with e906 sometimes coupled with the SE2000 backed way off.

Other guitarist (playing mostly lead parts) uses an old Fender Musicmaster and a Fender Hot Rod Deluxe amp. The fuzz tone was a Big Muff Pedal. I also miked him with the e906.

For miking guitar amps I tend to always back the mic off at least a foot. That coupled with the e906 helps tame any fizziness (which is a personal hate of mine when it comes to guitar tones) and adds a bit of depth.

Vocals

Vocals were done over a weekend in the singers bedroom with just him and me. We both sang into an SE2000.

Interestingly, throughout the whole process, no acoustic baffling or treatment was used despite being in sometimes unorthodox spaces.

Drums were recorded into an Alesis io2, M Audio Fast track and an AKAI EIE all at once using an aggregate device on the mac. No fancy preamps for me :(

The rest used just the M Audio.

Any thoughts or tips on the mix would be much appreciated, I really want to get this is as good as it can be to release as the single!

Been working on this mix. Just not sure what it's needing. Suggestions?

Constructive Criticism:

shorter intro, maybe cut it in half before the band comes in?
more high end on the snare, bottom mic if you have one, or maybe a sample trigger if you like going that route.

I'd like to hear more compression on the Lead Vocal, but the BGVox sound nice and clear to me.

here is the final project I did for school with a friend of mine. It had to be recorded in 4 hours and only two hours of mixing. Hope its marginal.

Here's a new one. First time I've recorded with my new Hammond. I recorded it in mono with a single LDC about 2 feet from the Leslie.
