recently done. using my new setup

For our mixtape.
track is instrumental from anthony hamilton's charlene
vocals laid and mixed in my studio (no booth)
equip setup:

Yamaha mg 12/4
M-Audio DMP-3
Audio Technica at4040
Layla 2496
Sonar 4 PE
Custom Monitors made using older jbl 8in cabinates (mixing on them 6years now)
plugins used:
Timeworks Reverbx
Timeworks Mastering Compressor
Digital Fish Phones BlockFish
Elemental audio eqium (custom taylored bas cut)
Sonitus EQ
Antares Tube Vst (very sparingly)
Cakewalk delay
no presets tutt
not a finished mix but decent
went for a warm feeling on vocals what yall think oh and the eq's are rarly used, really on for bass cutting/trimming

The mix is pretty rough, but the song is cool. I really like the way she sings. It need some more production though. It's too "plain" I think...

The vocals need to come up, and they're a little "brittle" on the top. There's something around 7-9K that's very present.

yeah i've noticed the brittle ness or bright ness
seems i only get it using my dmp and the at4040 its a little less dry sounding with my mg but with less detial maybe in the pre's but i'm tracing the problem i'll post the un altered vocals soon. as i said the music is just the instrumental from anthony hamilton's charlene give it a listen. any other opinions. oh and truthfully i don't like the way the at 4040 goes with here voice. just sounds dry. waiting on my first ribbon mic in the mail. she has a higher pitched soft voice that is usually complimented by a dark mic or at least it has in the past. that being the case i've been mic shopping.

The drums sound too loose - they need to be tightened, the vocal really needs compression. Shorten the release envelope on that clap/snare sound (dry it up) and in general take out the verb.

Nice song though, well done.
