HI guys, Any input on this would be Great :) :)

Hi Guys, I recorded this song the other day.
Drums and bass were recorded with a mackie onyx and garage band at an office after 5pm with a few beers and a set of headphones through my macbook. Bass was DI'd and drums had d112 on kick Studio Projects b1's for OH's
The rest was compiled on my LE system.

Any production/mixing tips would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks guys.

Matts myspace is: - Matt - 24 - Male - NZ - if you would like to hear more of him..his voice really is something!

Sounds really good. I'd like more impact, and "crack!" from the snare
in the chorus's.
The back up vox in the chorus sounds a bit funny. I think the harmony
is a bit too loud. And im not super keen on the way you slide the last
note "Own" and "alone" in the harmony vocal. I see how you're trying
to prevent an awkward abrupt stop there, perhaps you'd feel, if you
held that note straight out instead of bending down at the end, but i actually think it would
sound good if you just held it straight, until the next lead vox word starts.
Do some automation, and fade it down.
Maybe even a little automated delay send just at those words, so they
dont sound like they just dissapear with no trace.
You could turn the guitars up more.
The big backwards swell following the bridge seems to long, and predictable.
That comes down to personal taste, though i would say, make
the swell much shorter, and bring it back on an offbeat. BAM, in
there face when they're not expecting it. It wrongfoots them.
i love when a song does that to me.
Its a very good mix. Good melodic ideas.
A bit "stock" or cliche maybe (chorus sounds just like "Hello goodbye=Beatles), but very skillfully executed and tight.
Very good work indeed.

Thanks Todd, will do a mix of all the things you have suggested and show it to Matt. I'll post it for you once I've done it
I really appreciate the critique. What do you mean by the swell coming in on the off beat? Do you mean start it later so its shorter? Or bring the music back in half a beat earlier or both

Thanks again for your input. Appreciate it.

Wow, Can it Be I am going to agree with Todd
Yes, I am
This is definitely a good mix, but the vocals seem very funny to me, almost a bit stiff, there is some reverberation that doesnt quite fit with the mix. There is also a slight delay with the acoustic guitars that was done in the Stereo Panning, hmm...
What else can I nitpick!
Everything else is really great ready for mastering If it were even left at the way it is...
But yes, Very Beatles...

maybe ride the kick up in the choruses? Not feeling it once the guitars kick in.

Agree the vocal sound is strange, not bad perse, but the sound of the vox in the mix don't command my attention. Did you boost 300Hz or something? It's kind of shrouded and doesn't pop out of the mix, but not really a volume issue, it seems loud enough. Maybe play around with some EQ and a brighter ambience try to bring it forward. Sounds really good though.

Smile yo karlos

My name is Regdog how are ya!!

Yeh bro sweet recording bro. Good old garage band ah. good times.

Yeh for these are some issues but hey take or leave em.

Kick for starters isn't really punching through enough and yip up again in chorus for me.... maybe some 7-8k to get some slap through?? or squash it abit more to bring it forward? use smack bro... beats the other LE compressors in my book.

Vocally mat is got a good voice so I would spend heaps of time perfecting how you present it.... dont rush old melodyn... maybe dont tryn touch his trills as melodyn isn't quite as epic as autotune etc.
I like to try the old triple vox in chorus's... L and R and center... with the center as the main.. but dont make it obvious just to fatten it out abit??

Gats... I would maybe keep a strumming pattern to lift the 2nd verse and also the bridge? but thats a producer thing...

Some strings would maybe take it even closer to the beatles so yeh do it.... beatles are mean.

Great day.

Hope something will help ya.

Chur bol

I really love this!
You can tell it's not an entirely professional recording, but I kinda like that - reminds me of Paolo Nutini a lot.
I feel the bassline is lacking a little personally, not sure - sounds like it needs a little more melody when the chorus kicks in. Could just be him with the chords though!
This is really well done mate (well, in my opinion anyway, hahah) - get his demo out now!
