"Turn Me On" Cover

MP3Lizard.com: Downloading Liz Dawson - Turn Me On...

A woman I recorded last week. We used premade tracks, I just recorded the vocals. AT 4047 into a UA LA-610 with just a bit of 'verb. We also did "Hey Big Spender" and " Whatever Lola Wants".

I love her voice, personally, but I look forward to feedback on the vocal sound, and her as an artist.

That piano sound isn't doing anyone a favor. It needs to be re cut (IMHO) or at least EQ'd (scooped) to let the vocal sit in the mix. The vocal is over compressed - it didn't sound squashed to me, but it could use more dynamics. I want to feel it more when she opens up.

The mix of the instruments needs work. They are all fighting for space and don't blend well. Also, they are more upfront than the vocal. You need to give them instruments some short verb/early reflections to move them back and give them some space. Some panning would help too.

Nice voice, good delivery, pretty good sound. I think I'd lift the top end of the EQ curve a bit on the vocal.

I feel ya on the backing track - I didn't record it. I'll try the 'verb and EQ suggestions to open it up, thanks!
