Dave McNair - Sterling Sound

I just had a record I produced mastered by Dave McNair. This guy is so good. If you need something mastered, please use him. I've only spoken with Dave through email and have never met him, but he's a good dude that really cares about music and making it sound great!

Just wanted him to have some much deserved praise!

Thanks Dave!

Cheers,
Keith Harris

If you don't mind me asking, what was his fee? And what is your record? I've heard good things about him too.

Set up an account on Sterlings website.

Type in what you are looking to have done and an estimate for the engineer you have chosen is given.

Dave's a friend and does indeed do good work! Highly recommended, like pretty much anyone at Sterling or Masterdisk (where Dave was previously).

It's kind of hard to understand when you consider the atrocious room he has to work out of

I think Sterling hired him mainly as a foil for Chris....

Thor

The record was a Christian artist named Scott Reed. The record isn't out yet, but when it is, I'll try and post a tune or two.

Here's Dave's info at Sterling Sound.

Yeah, his gear and room are absolutely awful!

I first met Dave when we car-pooled from Houston to San Antonio back in 2009. It was a Grammy P&E wing-sponsored presentation on mastering with Dave and Jerry Tubb presenting.

Dave is a good guy who has even given his time to help me out with some business stuff.

Dave is indeed a top shelf mastering engineer, and a great guy!

We had the pleasure of a visit from him recently.

Kudos to McSnare!

Thanks Keith. I really appreciate the kind words.
To the other posters, also much thanks.
Any mastering engineers will agree having a happy client is a huge part of why we love doing what we do.

My question to Dave is this:

I work on 26th and 10th. I walk down to chelsea market almost daily for lunch.

Usually to Friedman's (No Gluten for me)

What are some other hidden treats?

The sandwich counter at Bowery Kitchen supply is always a winner for me, but you might be out of luck with a no gluten policy. The Lobster Place has great stuff as well. Another possibly overlooked spot is the salad bar at the produce store, I can't remember the name. It's excellent. And then there is the always popular Chelsea Thai.

Dave, you know I meant "hack" in the kindest of ways.
Seriously, I've known Dave to be creative and innovative.
Many mastering engineers find it hard to change or challenge themselves.
For example, you might see an engineer using the same monitors for
twenty years. Not that there's anything wrong with that but guys like
Dave are open to tying new things.

Yes, I'd heard Sterling was a hotspot for bondage.

Thanks!

I've heard the sushi is amazing in the seafood market as well. That's a good building to work in!

It's in the West Village and not in Chelsea - but for gluten free Risotteria is a great spot - risotteria restaurant

....and yeah, Dave's an awesome engineer and an amazingly cool guy.

Dave couldn't carry my jock-strap.

- seriously, he couldn't carry it. It's really heavy and I think he hurt his back or something...

Dave has his own place now. Excited to hear what he's pumping out of there. A true gentleman over the phone, and willing to help the fellow music maker.

Yes but that is because you are going for the CDR master. An MP3 master is $30 + $10 each additional reference MP3s (at 56Kbps). ;-)

I maintain that it's not fair you're trying to get him to do that while you're still wearing it.
