I'm confused about the ability to be able to mix in surround in Pro Tools using headphones.
I've seen vids about it from Waves regarding the NX plugin. But what I don't understand is routing. For instance, if you don't have a surround speaker setup, how do you bounce your audio to 5.1?
Has anyone mixed in 5.1 using headphones and Pro Tools? If so, can you share how you make it work?
There's a plug-in that takes the 5.1 channel and flips it to binaural stereo. with the plugin a knob to rotate your head or u can get something that goes onto your head to automate the knob by moving your head. I btw gave up on it, works kind of ok, but long& short of it is I ended spending the cash on a genelec real 5.1 system. Comparing the two it's a bit apples and oranges, but the headphones were better than I expected though at least for me the mix didn't translate well to a 5.1 nearfield standards for normal streaming(ie netflix/apple standards).
I own and occasionally use Ircam HEar.
Route your surround mix to a 5.1 Aux track. Insert HEar on that Aux track. It will become a stereo track. Route it to your headphone out.
Not super convincing surround sound, but as a rough approximation it works.
