Thats gonna screw up this song! Just what do you have against Otis Redding anyway? heh

Sittin' in the mornin' sun
I'll be sittin' when the evenin' come
Watching the ships roll in
And then I watch 'em roll away again, yeah

I'm sittin' on the dock of.......
Watching the tide roll away
Ooo, I'm just sittin' on the dock of......
Wastin' time

I left my home in Georgia
Headed for the 'Frisco bay
'Cause I've had nothing to live for
And look like nothin's gonna come my way

So I'm just gonna sit on the dock of.......
Watching the tide roll away
Ooo, I'm sittin' on the dock of.......
Wastin' time

Look like nothing's gonna change
Everything still remains the same
I can't do what ten people tell me to do
So I guess I'll remain the same, yes

Sittin' here resting my bones
And this loneliness won't leave me alone
It's two thousand miles I roamed
Just to make this dock my home

Now, I'm just gonna sit at the dock of......
Watching the tide roll away
Oooo-wee, sittin' on the dock of .......
Wastin' time

Also, if you are certain of something, you are sure, NOT shure!

And how many people have started saying the "I, for one" expression! It's a damn Simpsons quote FFS! You don't need to start every post with it.

So:

"I, for one, am shure the bay rawks." tutt

Also, f-o-l-c-r-o-m, not "fulcrom, fulcrum, or folcrum."

There was a thread where Justin from Rolls music explained the spelling, although I don't remember what it was.

Just spotted another one... when something is the opposite of noisy, it is quiet, NOT quite!

dfegad "I, for one, am shure the bay rawks for buying a minty quite folcrum."

It is still acceptable to use the word "rawk" when referring to the sound made by a parrot, crow or falcon.

Only if you go back to the master tracks of Cyndi Lauper's "All Through The Night" and Autotune the line "Stray cat is crying so stray cat sings back".

Every time I hear that song and it gets to that line I have to cringe!! She's so out of tune there!!

I'd like to thank joeq for the inspiration factor on this one:::

If you're really, really gettin' the awesome oldfashioned urge, where you just need to say the word "rawk", you could maybe use the word "falcon" as supersecret code for "folcrom" and say that it rawks.

Perfectly legit.

Given the lyric, could it be intentional?

Anyway, to Mr Wittman. Let's install a Naffness Filter on Gearslutz.

it's a CHOICE to 'bend' that note... trust me... not an accident.

but you're probably right, it will keep it from being a huge international hit...

oh, wait...

...and it's "weird" not "wierd", by the way...

Thanks for starting this thread, I needed to get this of my chest for a long time now.

there are PLENTY of bends on Joan's vocals... just not (that I can think of) in One Of Us.

and I didn't make either choice... the SINGER does.

Can we not even use the word "rawk" ironically?

As in, "The band didn't want to use a click track because they were afraid they wouldn't RAWK as much."

Other common mistakes:

"irregardless"
tenets vs. tenants

Be nice now. We are a few who aren't native English speakers (or writers).

So what is "the bay" and "rawk" anyway?

My complaint is Americans, whose predecessors were illiterate and spelt a number of words incorrectly, irrevocably damaging their offspring to the point where they follow a false god called "Dr Phil"

Like:

fulcrum
mum (what the hell is "mom" anyway?)
arse (it's not ass, dammit)
damn it
anything ending in "ise" or "izing", e.g organise/organizing or plagiarise/plagiarizing
anything ending in "our", e.g colour, but not labour/labor, which are two different words

What about using - why don't Americans spell it uzing? Inconsistent, really.

Or words that simply don't exist like "ketchup". Seriously, that's just a bunch of letters thrown in a pile. It's TOMATO SAUCE, people!!!

Phew, I feel better now. This rant has been building up on me since the internet appeared, and us real people have had to put up with American syntax all over our screens.

Peace out

(Nothing better than trying to create an "us vs them" flame war and hijacking a perfectly legitimate post, now is there? )
