Leave your ego at the door please.
This is a forum for audio professionals. Your are talking about people being elitist and then give a blanket statement, calling the people here "rinky dink soundmen," some of which have won major awards for just this craft.

If you want to call everyone here "servants who are supposed to run the sound system" then why are you here? You obviously don't care for or have a passion for audio. I thought that was clear in your never ending defensive stance about the Mackie 8-buss, saying it was good enough, and that everyone was worried too much, whatever.

If we all piss you off so much, don't post anymore, why reduce yourself to the level of the other supposed "rinky dink soundmen"? I have a feeling everyone may just love you for it anyway...

"artist" would be the operative word........and the soundguys"do"run the show. Ever seen the rectangle box with all the little lights and knobs set up near the middle of the venue. An "artist" is only as good as their engineer on any night. Tell Asslee I said "Hey"

Welll I can see the whole picture and both sides of the coin pretty easily I feel.

I... personally CAN sing... Honestly I can sing my ass off.
And I produce and play bass and guitar professionally....

And I coach other less 'naturally talented' folks...

And...I don't think Ashlee Simpson is 'talentless'...that is just a silly remark.

She is not a 'natural' and she is not very 'emotional' or stirring or deep...in my opinion.... But she does do whatever she does.

I also completely understand the frustration with working with anyone who has a 'hard time' feeling the music and even a harder time 'performing it.

But I do agree with DJ on one point....

My personal preference is to work with people who have a great attitude and really work to overcome the limitations we each have as human beings...
This is about working together..

Much Respect,

Another factor is that the people at a football game go there to see the game not the artist. I have seen her at one of her shows where it was attended by people who wanted to see her, and she got standing ovations and nothing but cheers all night. You really do have to be performing for a crowd that likes your music.

To give you another example, Fifty Cents was playing for a punk crowd in Europe, and not only did he get boo'ed, the crowd was throwing mud at the stage. It just wasn't his crowd.
and he his basically without musical talent as well. so that makes sense.

Wayne, thanks for your posts today. I needed a couple of good giggles, which I've gotten. But I still don't understand where your blatant hostility comes from.

You did not answer my question, whether you tracked or mixed her album, before you started slamming me for my opinion.

As you might recall, I DID say that you have every right to like her work. Why do other, differing opinions make you chafe? Why does it upset you that other people who are used to working with good --if not great-- artists with a much larger public, larger album sales, longer history, etc may not like Ms. Simpson? I"ve worked with plenty of acts and artists who I also don't like, and many people that I am completely impressed by. It's MY opinion. Why the hostility?

Just to be perfectly clear, I used to make a living singing professionally. I have gotten up there, busted my ass and made a crowd happy. That does not matter, does it? I use my real name now, but did not back then, so you would be hard pressed to post examples of my singing and make fun of me or point out my weaknesses (EVERY singer has them). Please don't take this information to slam me yet again, I am only using it to explain that I DO understand what it takes to do what she does. I respect how hard it can be to get up on the stage, and I take offense that you assume no one else here has a right to their opinion.

Last...I don't mix cement, so you'd be right in not letting me mix it. But going so far as to say something like that, I'd really like to know what you do for a living so I have an understanding where you are coming from, because so far all I hear is that you love one act and hate anyone who has a differing opinion.

I mix artists for a living. I deal with talented people most of the time. Your favorite performer happens to be someone I did not enjoy working with. It's not my call who is performing on a given day, nor is it my place to critique them WHILE they work, but I can say whatever I want afterwards, be it to their face or on the boards. If you visit Gearslutz, you are in the world of engineers, producer, recordists, studio geeks, and musicians. I'm curious how it benefits you to carry the flag for Ashlee in THIS forum and not on a site that champions her, where everyone will share the same opinion.

I HOPE I'm done here, and you show me the same respect I have shown you.

This is very easy. When you are in a band that sells millions of records, when you are an athlete that makes millions of dollars, when you are an actor that makes millions in the box office you are going to get ****. It is the nature of the beast. Whether the reason is jealousy, no life, opinions, YOU ARE IN THE SPOTLIGHT! So everybody will have an opinion. So it is this simple.

If you want the fame/money, you have to put up with millions of opinions. Regardless of if it is warranted or not.

Let me get this clear...you're posting on a message board with audio professionals and you're offended that we have opinions about another professional in our own field?

I noticed that your only defense of Ashlee is a personal attack on us. We say we don't like her singing, you say we're "rinky dink soundmen." One guy has actual experience working with her, and you insult him. A respectable defense would be actually defending her. The majority of us don't like her, but we don't expect you to fall in line, just be prepared to tell us why you like her.

Your hostility is probably related to something else. Somebody else mentioned vigorous defense of Mackie products, and insults for anyone who disagrees with you. Clearly you're coming to this message board to pick fights. It might benefit you to seek help.

I find it interesting that the original poster has now edited his post, omitting all of the bizarre ramblings about Hybrid Toddlers and the peculiar repetitious use of the word "Presented" with various inappropriate punctuations.

What's the story with your post, JohnDJwayne? I liked it better the way it was. Don't go spoilin' our fun.

Well, why didn't she simply do what any professional singer would do, which is to press one hand against an ear (ideally the same side, or it looks funny- she probably has a coach to explain this sort of thing) so you can hear yourself.
Listen mate- I've been singing for 15 years- I've played all sort of venues, sometimes without foldback.
If you are professional and talented then you find a way.
If you are a manufactured, pampered, corporate puppet then you are too busy sucking A&R schlong to really learn anything.

Just my opinion though.

A question... what the **** are you actually doing here?

There's nothing PC about this thread.
