A sad story about that song. I was dj'ing at a wedding and played it as joke.....later that night I heard that Tiny Tim had passed away that day. Talk about a spooky coincidence......

I felt really bad, and admire him for his comedic genius and the way he thumbed his nose at the establishment and cultural standards.

Really now, how many of you would have the balls to sing a song like, "Tip Toe Thru The Tulips ??"
I can think of one performance that outdoes "Tiptoe". Check this out ...

and tell me if you're not on the floor in less than 30 seconds

The thing here, is that virtually nothing on this list qualifies as just some personal preferences/prejudices sort of thing. I mean, some people are saying anything by U2, Hendrix, The Doors, etc. I understand someone not liking one or some of these major groups, but they're not really known for being cheesy, and they certainly don't stand up to your karaoke-wedding-list-from-hell.

I don't understand how anyone can think "We Built This City" is the worst song in pop history. It's a turd for sure, but I can think of hundreds of other semi-hit to hit songs that dwarf it's suckiness. "Let's Get ******** " is a good place to start. I mean they actually re-did the lyric and released it to save the catchy hook.

War, Yes, but did you know this: I saw an interview with EC when he explained what the song was about. He was late for a big social event and his then-lady friend was the reason. She had been switching dresses and shoes and stuff for hours. She would ask how she looked, and he said under his breath, 'you look F*$ing wonderful, just get in the car!' or something.

Sooo, then the song was written and its really about how he was mean to her that night. But the music makes it sound all sappy, but the intent was utter sarcasm.

--- Or at least that's how he explained it.

I'm just the messenger.

And finally, everyone knows the worst song IS, 'We Built This City.'

Really, it is.

I didn't bother reading all the previous posts in this thread, but from my viewpoint as a musician (drums), playing in bar bands from 1978-1995:

Bob Seger - Old Time Rock and Roll

Lynyrd Skynyrd - Free Bird

Creedence - Proud Mary

Cocaine

Merle Haggard - Silver Wings

Thanks for the vent.

I liked the heavy gtr in She Drives me crazy, it was the first pop tune to have that as I recall or one of the very few. The snare sux ass, true.

Where the hell is Allencollins? I thought he would love this thread!

I don't hate Yesterday, but I am sick of it. I am not a Richard Marx fan, but I liked the song Hazard. I can't hate Nickelback since they still the last rock band that made Rock music cool to like, which was needed from Hip Hop/ Rap overload. Now, that has got to be good? Unless most here prefer Rap and Hip Hop? Not I.

Ahh, so many I agree with and disagree with as well...

"We Built This City". Yes, pretty much the worst song ever recorded.

But my personal most hated piece of pop music:

"What's Going On?" by Four Non Blondes.

That's the only song that I literally won't allow myself to listen to. I'll put myself in physical jeopardy diving for the stereo controls to kill that song before I hear ANY singing. I don't care what else that woman has contributed to the music industry, and I get the impression it's a lot. In my fantasy world, she experiences painful prolonged torturous death for that song.

Wow! I can not believe you hate this song more than :

"Careless whisper" from Wham

"I'd Do Anything For Love" from Meatloaf

"Total Eclipse of the Heart" from Bonnie Tyler or

"Eternal Flame" from The Bangles

Wow that is impressive!!!!!

He actually didn't write it ... JJ Cale did a few years prior to this version. If they didn't play the live version so much (for me growing up in the 80s), I would still listen to it if it came on the radio. Unfortunately, I've had it forced into my brain so many times that I could scat-sing every frickin note of the solo. EVERY one of them

Sugar Sugar is my top choice for the worst thing ever recorded. A top ranking military guy told me that back in the cold war days, Sugar Sugar was used to break KGB spies during interogation. After the tenth time, they would completely crack-total breakdown, clawing at the walls kinda ****.
It was more effective than waterboarding, electric shock, and truth serum. Rumor has it that Validmir Kochenski-the top Soviet KGB agent in the 1970's-went totally insane after four plays of Sugar Sugar and swallowed cyanide. And that was after he ripped out his own fingernails with his teeth.

I can't imagine what the poor guys went through who were forced to listen to it 24/7 over and over again. They're probably still talking to trees.

It's also the only song outlawed under the Geneva Convention-no ****, look it up.

Absolutely inhumane and sadistic.
