Agree'd, EXCEPT "Jenny Wren" which is another glimpse of his genius.

Let me be more specific: Paul's 911 ode, "Freedom" could have been the worst song I've ever heard.

Im Waiting for the "Empire Productions" guy to invade this thread whining about how its all about bashing people. I am all for "open" discussions about likes and dislikes in our business.

As far as WORST POPULAR SONG I'd say anything that Creed and Nickleback writes.

Bohemian Rhapsody... and about 90% of Queen actually.

There... I said it. Vile self indulgent nonsense to me- no doubting the talent, but like so much Radiohead... who let them get away with this tripe (and well done on seeing past the aural insults to the sales potential!)

Wow...another ressurected thread....or rather threat?

What about Dire Straits' 'Walk of Life'? Lamest-ever song and what about that riff?

.....and the Police's 'Every breath you take'? What a lame song that is an uninspired amalgam of stolen ideas. The only good thing is Andy Summer's guitar part, HE should get the royalties!

I once read a quote from M.Stipe about 'Losing my religion' that said something like 'I wanted to write the best love song ever, something that is better than 'Every Breath you take' and I suceeded....

Holy maccaroni, I hate both songs with a vengeance!

I'm going to go with Rick Derringer's "Rock and Roll Hoochie Koo."

I particularly like the turn of phrase, Rock and Roll Hoochie Koo / Lordy, mama, light my fuse

Dreck. Claptrap.

LOL Are you sure you don't just hate it for the OVER PLAY? Most Hip Hop and Rap songs are quite similar regarding the very repetitous Chorus. However, I wanna know what Love is, might be the champ in sheer time spent repeating.....

jeebus - this is the kind of thread that makes the whole forum worthwhile - thanks to all the thoughful contributors on this.

i personally cannot listen to the white stripes - i simply cannot believe they are a succesful group.

i also have no patience for dave matthews - the dude just cannot sing.

i hate jim croce, and positively despise gordon lightfoot. and dont forget neil diamond...

and then there is the ever puerile edie brickell - "i know what i know if you know what i mean..." pure drivel.

and to the dude who posted the beatles, zep, etc - you left off stevie wonder - clearly a talentless hack of the first water.

I like lots of the others named too:
Poison had some good stuff but yeah, "Every Rose.." - I always hated that 1.
"I Melt With you"
"We Built This City"
"Cum On Feel The Noize" - the quiet Riot version blows away the oriiginal version, though the Slade guy does have an interesting voice.
"Take My Breath Away"
"You Light Up My Life"
"Safety Dance"
These all rock.

Poison didn't do "Girls, Girls, Girls" - it was a lame Motley Crue song.

I agree on the Clapton song in the initial post though - terrible.

My nominations:
anything off Def Leppard's "Hysteria"
anything by Three Doors Down
"Hollaback Girl"
all Black Eyed Peas I've heard on the radio lately
all Lenny Kravitz besides "Are You Gonna Go My Way"
The Goo Goo Dolls version of "Give A Little Bit"
"The Speed Of Sound" or whatever that lame Coldplay song is called and "Clocks"
all John Mayer
all Dave Matthews
"Every Breath You Take" - how can I forget that one...
Bryan Adams stuff in the 90s
Rod Stewart stuff in the 90s
Sting's stuff in the 90s

I could go on but...
You could go but..... you might name everything? Name the stuff you love, fearlessly awaiting criticism, ok?

New millenium? ..believe it or not, it's headed in the right direction cause we're referencing the best and worst of the past.

Funny stuff! Yeah, hip hop and RAP is the future!
Regardless whether the overly post producted, melodyned, sampled, harmonically void, melody starved type music is better or worse than the music from the past, it meant A LOT to hundreds of millions of people then, and continued inspire youth of today....particularly non-rap, non-hip hop type artists.

I don't really think that bashing a song (however infantile the lyric) from 1956 really applies. that was some outlandish stuff when it was released. That song was banned from most radio because they thought it was about masturbation.

as for gut wrenching songs that make me wanna stab somebody in the ear with a screwdriver:

Shiny Happy People- REM

Save a horse, Ride a Cowboy- Big and Rich. (interesting sidebar, John Rich, was at a gig my band did the other night, made an ass of himself and got decked. beautiful.)

That godawful puff daddy, diddy, diddly, whatever his name is song that sampled 'everybreath'

and the number one song that makes me wanna kill people:

I'm Proud to be and American- Lee Greenwood. Sends me into a blind rage everytime I hear it.
