if pop songs are eligible, I will vote for anything by Savage Garden or perhaps Hootie & the Blowfish....

Okay, if we're opening it up to pop, how about Bobby Goldsboro's "Honey?" That one really does make me sick to my stomach...

All really good choices so far but none makes me want to impale myself on a broken mic stand as much as "She Hates Me" by Puddle of Mudd.

It just sucks so many levels.

Also, how about "Shiny Happy People"? An R.E.M. song we can all agree on.

C'mon, that's probably the coolest "Nirvana" song.

I like lots of the others named too:
Poison had some good stuff but yeah, "Every Rose.." - I always hated that 1.
"I Melt With you"
"We Built This City"
"Cum On Feel The Noize" - the quiet Riot version blows away the oriiginal version, though the Slade guy does have an interesting voice.
"Take My Breath Away"
"You Light Up My Life"
"Safety Dance"
These all rock.

Poison didn't do "Girls, Girls, Girls" - it was a lame Motley Crue song.

I agree on the Clapton song in the initial post though - terrible.

My nominations:
anything off Def Leppard's "Hysteria"
anything by Three Doors Down
"Hollaback Girl"
all Black Eyed Peas I've heard on the radio lately
all Lenny Kravitz besides "Are You Gonna Go My Way"
The Goo Goo Dolls version of "Give A Little Bit"
"The Speed Of Sound" or whatever that lame Coldplay song is called and "Clocks"
all John Mayer
all Dave Matthews
"Every Breath You Take" - how can I forget that one...
Bryan Adams stuff in the 90s
Rod Stewart stuff in the 90s
Sting's stuff in the 90s

I could go on but...

I hate you for reminding me of this one.

The only one I might hate more is this song called Cotton Eye Joe I only seem to hear at weddings. A sort of techno redneck line dance thing.

Oh look, I found it on Amazon -

Again, not really rock, but if you're going to have the word rock in your name, you better live up to some standards. This did not do it.

Can't even listen to it without bursting out into deep belly laughter.

"Love Rollercoaster"... Hot Chocolate (I think...getting old..)
"I Will Survive"... Gloria Gaynor... And it made a comeback! Yuck...
"Kung Fu Fighting"... I forget who...
"You Can Ring My Bell"...Don't wanna know...
"Endless Love"<a href="http://www.smileycentral.com/?partner=ZSzeb008_ZNxmk133DSNO" target="_blank"><img src="http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/10/10_2_5.gif" alt="Vomit 2" border="0"></a>

I'll second that Debbie Boone "You Light Up My Life" crap, as well. To make matters worse it was number one for like a bajillion weeks. Had to sit through that crap every day on the school bus with all the girls singing off key and weeping... <a href="http://www.smileycentral.com/?partner=ZSzeb008_ZNxmk133DSNO" target="_blank"><img src="http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/10/10_2_6.gif" alt="Vomit 3" border="0"></a>

Oh! And Rupert Holmes "Pinà Colada Song" or "Escape" or whatever it was called, in spite of the clever lyrics.

And! "Convoy" by CW McCall... Cross over crap...

And when you hear these songs, they turn into little brain parasites and the fukkers gnaw at you for hours after you've heard them. Just like a lame tune at a session... GET THE FUKK OUT OF MY HEAD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

"American Woman" by Lenny Kravitz. The production decisions and the vocal. Its biggest crime is that it's a really bad version of a great record (by the Guess Who of course). This record irritates, saddens and confuses me. Make it go away.

Boy, you guys are a tough bunch of critics!
But you forgot a bunch of real crap

I know that might piss-off a lot of people by saying this...

But...
Any of the Super Tramp sniveling, melancholy crap with those eunuch-like vocals!
The music is great...but...

Songs like:
Take The Long Way Home
Give A little Bit
Breakfast in America
Etc...

Make me want to projectile HURL!

Let's not forget the vice-grip, she-male vocals of
Air Supply!

Ala...
Lost in Love
I'm all out of Love... etc.

Barf...Gag..Spew...

THE WORST SONG EVER?

Easily one of the worst, if not the worst song I have ever heard.
This song makes me want to smash my expensive stereo amp!
It makes me want to plunge rusty ice-picks in my ear-drums!

Beat this…Listen…If you dare!

Totally agree! Unfortunately I was recently forced to play this crap with a 'pay-the-bills' country-rock band that I'm playing with on the side. The singer was giving a real 'heartfelt' reading of it (yuck) and luckily also provided the guitar 'theme', which is lame beyond descrption.

Eric Clapton is actually one of my fave guitar players, it's just that he totally sucks when not being pushed. His solo on 'Sleepy Time Time' from the Cream reunion almost made me faint, just incredible. Same with the 'Layla' record, Beatles guest spots, etc.

I agree again! This one I would simply refuse to play. What a lame, pseudo-'deep', boring and unoriginal track.

o.k, to contribute something new here:

Bob Dylan 'Blowing in the wind'

I always hated that song with a vengeance. Let me say that I'm a huge Dylan fan and think of him as one of THE songwriters. But 'Blowing in the wind' is lame and preachy, it reminds me of people like Pete Seeger and Joan Baez and I don't mean that as a compliment.

Actually there are more 'Wind' tracks I hate:

"Candle in the wind"

"Wind of change"

Brian May 'Driven By You'

the first time I heard was on a Ford commercial and I thought: "Now there is a prime example of a crappy rock pastiche written by a committee of advertising execs with no musical talent between them!"
Then Brian released the single...

any godsmack song. The riffs are the kinda riffs you write when you first start playing guitar.

Any 3 doors down song especially kraptonite. Why was that song so huge?

Any fall out boy song. How are they any better than any of the other piece o' krud emo bands out there? There flippin huge right now,I dont get it

Any violent femmes song. Dumb quirky songs, played and sang poorly with extra crappy production. Again, I dont get it

b52's rock lobster- huuhh, why?? Why is this on my radio right now? I've heard this song 2 or 3 times over the last few weeks. For some reason its on regular rotation at my local radio station right now. Again, dumb song, crap performance and to add to it, its about 6 minutes long.

Days of the Puddle of Nickle-Creek (they are all the same band right?)

Is it me or do all of those awful bands just sound the same. It is the same battle as the soda market. Coke just came out with a 1 calorie soda, now Pepsi has to. If Atlantic has the crappy new radio rock band, every other label has to have one. Three cheers for the modern record companies for supplying the modern world with great music!

I would happily listen to "We Built This City" (which certainly has earned a spot somewhere in my personal Top 10 Worst Rock Songs Ever) over & over again on infinite repeat for an entire week, if I could be assured that I would never again have to hear "Hollaback Girl". Whoever wrote [sic] and produced (more like excreted) that blasphemy deserves to have their tongue tatooed with a rusty razor blade dipped in ammonia.

almost any song that a heavy rock band writes to get some radio airplay:

Queensryche - Silent Lucidity
Metallica - you know the one with the guitar riff in it that James wrote when he was 3 years old, ba-da-dum-de-dum "now I lay me down to sleep" lyric "SANDMAN"! that's it.
