Just asking.

Whenever I sell something, it's clean, and as good it can be.

Everytime I buy something, it looks like it was used as a spittoon.

Tired of buying f-up'ed vintage gear.

Yeah...

Ive gotten a few things that have been a little dirty. A quick but thorough wipedown to get something looking nice would take like two minutes.

Maybe they didn't specify that it would be cleaned before they shipped it. Kinda like the guy who sold a piece of gear, but didn't ship a power cord because he didn't say that it would be included.

Seriously though, yeah, I can't imagine selling anything that I didn't give a good cleaning to. A lot of people just don't care.

I bought a power amp for a friend, the thing was a beast, the guy packed well on top and bottom, forgot about the sides, the rack ears had slammed through both sides of the box and that was with usps, think of what would have happened with ups for fedex, nothing was wrong with it but it tripped me out when I saw it.

Yes they are… The typical "muso's stinking room"… I've already seen places like that and I can tell you I didn't stay long there !

I bought a cheap acoustic on ebay, a yamaha.

It took me 4 goes to get the gunge off the fretboard, I mean, how the hell does it get that thick! It was even on the body of the guitar a bit and the strings had rusted away from 11's to about 9's

They're probably genuine gearslutz with no time to polish the gear. I've got a Vox Tonelab at my feet here, I could probably write things on the accumulated dust. Wanna buy it? heh

Buyers of vintage gear may be interested in function or they may value original condition - or both. Cosmetics will not affect the function and aggressive cleaning may seriously damage the original finish - at least in the eyes of a collector. So why not let the buyer decide how pristine the item should look?

best,
