Please- no Censorship

I guess some naughty sluts made some rude remarks about women and the moderators had to delete/lock a recent thread. I never got a chance to read it, though I was planning on having a look eventually.

walters was humorous, and a pain in the ass, but you didn't have to read him if you didn't want to. Now you can't read it at all. Maybe there's bandwith issues...I don't know .

Does everything have to be so politically correct these days, even in an internet forum? I don't know what was said , and maybe it should have been deleted, I just personally find the act of censorship more offensive than ANY idiotic comment I've ever read on a forum.

I think overall the moderators here do a great job and I would hate to see that change. At recording.org the mods are always closing threads, and frankly it just makes them look like a-holes, IMO. They've banned Fletcher. Fletcher, for pete's sake!!

Just my 2 dollars worth. I think most forum readers are mature enough to separate the wheat from the chaff and don't really need a babysitter.

Peace.

I started a kind of apology towards the women in GS, saying how much we love them etc.. Jules deleted it and I was like WTF ??????? I honestly wanted to apologize... but after a few minutes, I came to reason and I understand why he did it and think he did the correct thing.

The main reason I like GS.com is because it is kept clean. I don't post in other forums, but that kind of moderation keeps things flowing because not everyone is polite, and the last thing you want to do as a user, is adding up people to your ignore list. I think Jules saves us with the hassle. I think he is doing a great job as a moderator, and if one of my threads needs to be deleted for that reason, I'm more than happy to cooperate and shut up.

I guess some people believe it's truly the root of all evil, or something like that. Or, they feel it's harmful to those sensitive to swear words. Or, maybe it's a power trip thing... Who really knows the truth? Who REALLY are the people acting childish and irresponsible? Not that I personally have a problem with any of this, but saying the word "fuck" and having someone else misinterpret it is not my fault, because any word or combinations of words can be interpreted in a number of ways, and the only way to stop that is to stop everything.

There are few rules here..

One code of conduct I hope for is - that any parent / relation should be able to be viewing the forums and not have a wife or child that happens to see material on the screen be embarrassed by anything up on display.

for that reason

A few well known cuss words get turned into ******
Cuss words in thread titles are 'un cool'
Locker room / overtly sexual language is not allowed
Pornographic / nude images are not allowed.

Frankly I bet some guys viewing the site get some raised eyebrows from the gag / word pun name of the site already so if their partner sees a naked woman up on the screen their GS surfing days might well be over in AN INSTANT!

Secondly there are some folks that have a lot to offer the pro audio community that don't like overtly bad language, and I am keen for them not to be driven away.

Now you know whats up, participate or don't participate, the choice is yours.

It has been on my 'to do' list to spell out the few rules there are in the sites FAQ section..

I will get round to it..

Tone Laborer - to me, it seems like you are a little sad that you missed out on the semi sleazy stuff I deleted.. No apology there! You snooze - you loose!

it does seem extreme considering the domain name will automatically get blocked from netnannies simply over its name alone...

maybe gearbabies.com? gearconsumers.com? gears-r-us.com?

anybody like rackwh0re.com?

but its HIS place so he can do as he wants really...

Like I said earlier, Jules, I think you guys do a real good job overall and if you needed to delete the post, so be it. Mine is more of a general comment about being politically correct and just how easy it is to offend someone these days.

If I want to see nudity on the net, I MIGHT be able to find some, so I'm not in mourning or anything, but thanks for the concern. I actually did just want to see if there were the any women who participate in GS, FWIW.

Actually, if you snooze, you're not supposed to loose, you supposed to be able to check the web, when you wake up!

Anyway, peace.

the women that i knew that i mentioned in this thread would find my post amusing.......
they are amazing players with amazing minds.............amazing............that
their looks came into the equasion was a tercerary element, definitely nice, but
not the focus; i never would have posted otherwise.........

one thing i'm sure of is these women could literally kick anyone's ass -
musically + intellectually - they would hate being seen as "victims"
if you were in their presence, you would feel this even with your
eyes closed................

be well

I just had a thread disappearing - about the Violet/Blue microphone confusion..

One minute it's there, the next it's just gone.. No explanation or anything.

This really makes me worry - after all, if problems can't be discussed - then why are we here?

The least you'd expect is some kind of an explanation to the people involved in the thread. Otherwize it smells a bit too much of the Recording.org regime..

Some guys have been doing a gurrila PR campain for JZ mic's, so once every few months a new thead goes up. It's old news and there are about 4 old threads that can be added to / researched. Here they are

https://www.gearslutz.com/board/showthrea...ghlight=Violet
https://www.gearslutz.com/board/showthrea...ghlight=Violet
https://www.gearslutz.com/board/showthrea...ghlight=Violet
https://www.gearslutz.com/board/showthrea...ghlight=Violet

It has become a 'cat & mouse' game and as the cat, I have become a little tired of it all..I DO have the option to put a reason why a thread is deleted and I admit I did think for a second to put one down for that last thread deletion, but was lazy about it in this case and didnt bother. Please accept my apologies....

There IS a complaints department for GS

it is here - jules AT gearslutz.com or the link at the bottom of every page that says 'contact us'.

I like folks to contact me directly with gripes than 'campaign in posts' for changes.

Red face

I withdraw my complaint!!!

It turned out that it was simply the PM system delaying the notification from our good moderator. Thank god - this great place is not going down the drain after all..!

My sincerest apologies, Jules, for comparing you to that other place!!

My bad, I thought it was appropriate moan zone material, I was mistaken. I officially end the campaign.(I didn't even know I was running) My apologies to Jules, I did not intend for it to be a personal attack on him.

I think some of the attitudes towards women in certain threads may be the reason there aren't more women working in the recording industry.

I'd say Jules does a great job of keeping this place 'clean but not too clean'.

It's a fine line, but if you go too far over it, things can deteriorate pretty rapidly.

I know of a few forums that lock 80% or more of their threads and ban just as many.
Luckly for me, Jules gave me another shot after my idiotic first post or I would have been banned here.

Oh well, this is the best forum I have found so far.

The whole point of having a forum like this is that it isn't allowed to be a free for all.

rec.audio.pro is still alive, well and totally uncensored.

I think a company that sells gear should not be posting here I look for unbiased opinions. Any company/dealer will have a biased opinion. I know for a fact that there certain companies who have employees that post on pro audio sites I think that's wrong and you won't find me posting anything here about me trying to sell my services. This is not the place to advertise IMO.
If you want to advertise buy a banner from Jules!
That's my story and i'm sticking to it.

I have bought banner ads in the past from Jules, maybe you never saw them. I can personally promise that myself or my partner (we are a 2 person operation and my partner has very little interest in forums) have never posted under another name anywhere around the web, ever. I make my dealer status known on every forum I'm a member of. I was a forum member just about everywhere before I ever started selling gear and know tons of folks from these forums before and since. Dealer opinions are yet one more opinion and should be viewed with caution just like the guy who just dropped $2k on a preamp and says it's the best for someone else just because he owns one.

If you have services that others may find of use here on the forums, you should post a link. It tells us something about you and maybe something you could help us with, or maybe why you might think a certain way on a product or service. It is within the rules of Jules (hey I'm a poet and didn't even realize it).

War

PS: And my comment about RO goes nowhere even close to Fletcher spamming the place. There is a whole story behind it that you might not be aware of which is fine too. I was using that comment as an example of the abnormality of RO, truly a whacked out joint if I ever, er, read one.
