How low can you go

We have a band that booked the studio to mix a full album. Recorded in another studio but wanted to mix at our place. So they came in with another engineer about 2 weeks ago ... last friday the rec. company and the band come in to have a first preview ... and they don't like the result. So they discuss with us the possible solutions .... especially after we tell them that if it goes out of the studio like that ... we would prefer that the studio name doesn't get mentioned in the credits.

Marc (my partner) offers to give it a try ... mix two tunes. So he spends friday / saturday and sunday night mixing two songs. (had to be done at night because during the day the other engineer was working).

Monday evening the rec company and the band comes in again and they decide they want Marc to Mix the whole album. Tuesday the other engineer gets a visit from the rec company guy and he gets fired in a nice and polite way. Before leaving the studio he manages to delete every single file from the project.

Not that bad because the files were brought to the studio on a binch of CDR's but he also deleted Marc's two mixes.

How low and small minded do you have to be to pull a trick like that. I mean ... dfegad dfegad why ????

Wow. That's beyond idiotic.

It'll hurt him most in the end, though. Stuff like that gets around...

I hear that. I handle it like big business does it...

Large firms usually let their employees go at the end of the week... They also stick around while the employee gathers their belongings before they're escorted out of the building.

Telling them on Monday, they only have a job until Friday can be very dangerous.

Yep, people can react real bad when fired!

You need a strategy in place for how it gets done IMHO, when, where etc,

Escorting them out of the building, is not unknown and there are very good reasons for it. I've had to do it.

What an AH!
Individuals that can´t reflect on themselves should live in sheds and eat hay.

I think to spread his name would be just the right thing to do.

Poor Marc, I personally can hardly stand trying to work out the exact same thing once again.

Have you tried Norton Disk Recovery or any similar program.
Sometimes they actually work.

Norton is not recovering audio files very well, but PT files yes.

You should also check other prg such as disc warrior (tricky to use, but amazing) ...

There are people in Belgium that can help you recover the files, even if Norton is unable to do it. I can maybe check for you chris, PM me if you need help

if you want to recover the files, live that drive untouched.

best regards

Dunno about Belgium, but if he tried that in any of the facilites that I'm familiar with, he would be in a whole new world of trouble.

First, he might get blacklisted. That's bad enough. The rest of stuff, I'm not committing to public record...

Is the record company covering the cost of remixing the two tunes?

...and remember if it's digital, and it's not backed up in two different locations on two diffferent media, it don't exist.

As far as getting blacklisted .... done.

No need for file recovery. the files where still available on seperate CD roms brought over from the studio where the stuff was recorded on tape and then transferred to PT.

The 2 songs will have to be remixed. Marc remembers quite well how he handled it and will have to take it from there ... there were some files 'soundreplaced' (snare / BD) but he remembers what samples he used.
