Stolen - EMS (The putney) VCS3 serial No:1000 !! UK

A friend of a friend posted this sad news on facebook:

Quote:
A very valuable and rare synth has gone missing from the coventry area.
The synth is an EMS (The putney) VCS3 serial No:1000 with an EMS DK2 keyboard serial No: 2468 made in 1974/75.
It was last known to be in Coventry, UK and has probably been offered or sold to a studio, pro musician or recording band.
The synth is of considerable value and of sentimental value as well.
I would appreciate if you could share this so that we can find and retrieve the synth.
The police are being informed of all details.
Many thanks

Was anything else stolen? It's not the sort of thing that your general cash converters / gumtree thief would know about.

Yep!! You could get a hand-writing detective in?

The knobs are distinctive - I'd have to search to see if those colours where used on later models only?

Doch! I thought you'd found the stolen one (you linked in the Ebay thread), but clearly the the serial number is the original handwriting. Plus, Burbank is a bastion of goodness - nothing shady ever happens there.

This is why it's important to hide, in every synth, a small amount of radioactive material - just enough for the geiger counter to pick it up from across the pawn shop.

you might think i'm a bit OCD (everyone else did) but i had a phase of thinking about putting tracking devices in my gear. (before i sold it all and got walmart mail order synths.)
