eBay Now Adding in State Sales Tax on Purchases :(

I haven't bought much on eBay lately, but today came across a mic I had been looking at for a decent price and decided to go ahead and purchase it. The surprise came at checkout when state sales tax was added on which I had not paid previously on any purchase on eBay. Not a lot, but it brought the total up enough that if I knew it was to be added on I think I would have bought from a regular online retailer rather than from some individual on eBay.

I did some Google digging to find out when eBay started collecting tax for my state and evidently it was a recent change, but what caught my attention was that while eBay itself is collecting tax rather than the seller, a couple posts on forums I found suggested ebay is looking at moving the burden of tax collection on to the seller rather than themselves doing it. I've got some older gear I was thinking of parting ways with on eBay, but I don't want to get entangled in collection of sales taxes for what few pieces of gear I might want to move. eBay just seems to be getting worse day by day.

We love our loopholes, don't we? Better get yourself on up to New Hampshire and stock up on booze while you still can. :-)

it is not ebay's fault that rapacious States want to increasingly rob their citizenry. most of the recent States since June 1st that are forcing ebay to collect are Democrat run states -- not surprising actually.

ebay is probably more troubled by this than any of us as they have lost tremendous revenues from this never-ending money grab nonsense.

remember, there's a lot more citizens than tax collectors.....

Yeah but the tax collectors have spent considerable amounts of time brainwashing the citizens into actually accepting this thievery.

yes, except the tax collectors are just the dirty cops enforcing the fraudulent unconstitutional "laws" -- the schools and the media et al., as run by the CIA are the propaganda arms of Deep Corp/State.

this by an ex-IRS commissioner is an excellent summary of the fraud perpetuated on the American citizenry:

May the coffee of a thousand deep state actors and deaf mute bureaucrats turn cold! I will not have this rapacious thirst for my hard earned money turned into health care for the less fortunate, filled pot hills for the mutant metal machinery or a minimal education for the new drones of the working poor.

Where in the Constitution does it state that We the People are responsible for paying for other citizens' children's food, clothes, education, or healthcare? When having children do you expect-- no-- demand-- these goods and services to be paid for by others? Let's not even get into illegal aliens free healthcare and schooling, etc....

Where does it state we must give over the fruits of our labors at any %age the Gov deems "fair"? [Bill of Rights vs ratified 16a of 1913, the only true law of land btw and Founders stressed no direct un-apportioned taxation, and Allodial Title to property; but, as student of Constitutional law and US history, you know about this I'm sure.]

Why don't you go ahead and just put a tax on yourself, at, say, 98%, and give it all away to those less fortunate than yourself? In fact, work harder, put in more hours, and generate that paper so you can give away that much more!

Better yet, read the link I posted and consider acquainting yourself with the Bill of Rights so that maybe the WAKEY SNAKEY GOV THAT HAS IT'S HANDS IN YOUR BRAINS AND AS SUCH POCKETS -- ah, never mind, keep enjoying the debt-slave on the Corporate Plantation model you've been hoodwinked a la Stockholm syndrome into embracing for yourself....

I think you spelled "ME" wrong in your name when creating your account here.. It's an honest mistake though, it rhymes with "V".

PS: If I ever respond to a request of yours for help or anything please remind me not to help you out. You clearly are an island (even if you're a woman).

Nice argument there bro. And yeah, the Socialism experiment was inadvertently conducted in America when the Pilgrams came over, and guess what? They ended up as Islands vs those that practiced a more free market model of cooperation. And then those practicing proto-Socialism went back to free market type cooperation. Same thing happens in school experiments. I'm too lazy to cite all of this, esp given how petty you are re: not helping me just bc you don't agree with my facts.

the only thing clear is that i live on the Isle of Manhattan.

have a nice day.

Me not helping you in the future is not me being petty. I try to help anyone I can.. except if they have the attitude you have. You can help yourself. No reason for other people to help you. No obligation to help you. No nothing. There's just you.

And the free market.

I'm sure the free market can help you.

As a matter of fact, give me money and I'll help you, gladly!

Written like a true "Progressive". So tolerant too. Oh yeah, let me pay you now, because, you know, "free markets", or better yet, maybe the State can force you to help me -- after stealing, say, 90% of our respective "income" -- you'd probably like that a lot more, esp if you can virtue signal while doing it?

LOL

All I'm saying is I'll still help you as long as you pay me. No reason to get upset about that.. Manhattan..

Something tells me you don't create art for a living..

Your above proves yet again that you are presumptuous.

And no, given the virtue signaling of you being so politically righteous so as to go out of your way and publicly not offer help to me here [gratis] based on facts i shared vs offering cogent argument, there would be no way I would pay you for anything, presuming I would require your help here to begin with [your initial presumptions].

Have a nice day.

I never presumed you required my help. I simply said that if you ask I won't help unless you pay me, seeing that it appears to be the way you think about how a community should function.

I really appreciate the language you're using though, "virtue signaling" is so "now". Unlike "fetch" it happened. Nothing tired about it. Still "fresh".

Is "fresh" still a thing?

Anyway, best of luck to you. In a community of artists etc I think the fundamental premise on society of yours should do you well. Like I said, you're probably not an artist so even if it would have been an issue it won't be. But it wouldn't have, because I'm sure yours is the way forward.
