There are two threads of activity of interest.

On December 12th, 2016 Music Group filed a trademarks application with the USPTO. Gibson filed a similar application about 2 weeks later. Both were classified as "new" applications, meaning that there was no trademark currently in effect.

https://trademark.trademarkia.com/ob...-87262808.html
https://trademark.trademarkia.com/ob...-87282523.html

Neither application has resulted in a trademark or patent being awarded. Music Group's application was rejected as of December 5, 2018 ... pretty much for failing to keep up with the paperwork process.

The current status of Gibson's application is "Published for Opposition". This means that Gibson might get ownership of the trademark, if no one else files an application or objection.

They don't own it presently, and have not for several years.

You could charitably spin it as "Gibson plans to give the TM to Tom, if/when they own it". It really does come across as a PR stunt though.

Contrast this with how Yamaha actually did own the Sequential Trademark, but allowed Dave Smith to (re?)register it without opposition.

Incorrect, Gibson licensed the Oberheim name to viscount who released and supported products tagged with the Oberheim until at least 2004. The kept Gibson's ownership of he trademark active.

They most certainly don’t, they’re here to troll this thread to complain about non-Behringer synths. I don’t get it, that sort of tribalistic negativity is miserable.

I get why people want cheap reissues. I don’t get why they have to bring every single thread, especially objectively good news down to such a level.

Oberheim did show some prototypes of Euro module format SEM modules at NAMM a couple of years ago, both single and dual versions, and with slightly different feature sets.

Neither of these has actually been produced for sale as of yet.

Leveraging the SEM design for Euro format products would probably yeild some very popular products.

The Euro SEM project is officially dead in the water at this point from what I hear.

I think he should get together with DSI again and they should do what they did with the OB-6/P6 and release two synths with similar layouts and form factors. They could bring back the Matrix 6 and Six-Trak this time with modern membrane buttons and sliders. Matrix 8 and Eight-Trak

Ugh... back in the day those were both pretty crap synths. Somehow they've both been glorified over the years. I owned the sixtrak 2x a buddy of mine had the matrix 6 and eventually the matrix 1000. I would take most any modern analog over those.

Oh wow, the plot thickens. Thanks for the detailed explanation and links!

It’s odd that Behringer abandoned the filing. Maybe they thought it wouldn’t hold up against Gibson’s claim and decided to cut their losses.

In any event, I hope Tom gets the trademark back and releases something soon.

They still are. I laugh every time I see 6's going on Ebay/Reverb for over $1k, I have no idea why anyone would drop that kind of cash on one.
