Maybe you should listen to what's on the radio instead. You'll feel much more confident about your abilities then.

I prefer to think of it as, listening to any music -- good or bad -- is encouraging...because if I'm listening to good music I think "Damn, I need to up my game!" and I stop listening and go practice my craft. And if I'm listening to bad music I think "WTF? Why am I wasting my time on this crap? I could be practicing my craft!"

Either way it's win-win.

There are some amazing pop music, IMHO. Lord's Pure Heroine sounds great … and I think it was mixed in the box, too.

The other side of the coin would be, if it came too easy, where would the fun be in that? But man, I'm embarrassingly bad … but I love music too much to quit.

My mind goes into some dark places when I compare myself to what I listen to.

I often get that sinking feeling when I hear great music, especially if it's new.

However, as it happens, if it's a live performance, I instead get very excited to try new stuff out, and become more productive as opposed to less.

This is how I feel about porn. Especially when there’s a guitar in the background.

Just assume the correct fretting position and you'll feel better.

Reminds me of something a friend said many years ago:

<Deleted by Moderator> I completely understand why musicians like doing it. I suppose I can even understand why some folks like watching musicians do it. But why on earth would you want to listen to it!?!?!"

I think of it as encouragment, because if an amazing song is making it into my brains, i'd at least know it's possible to make good music and be influenced by it. In or out of music production/recording.

Count me among those who find good music inspiring -- and that inspires enthusiasm for making music.

Maybe it's because I was told not once but twice as a kid by music teachers that I had 'no musical talent whatsoever.' (Not without reason, mind you. I had serious problems differentiating different, relatively close notes, not being able to tell which was higher when the were within a 4th or so of each other; and, seemingly, almost no sense of rhythm. Uphill climb, for sure.)

When you've got an easy-to-best baseline like that, it's relatively easy to feel good about any progress you have made.

that's probably played by nick batt from sonicstate website. It's probably a Burns guitar in that case.
it's probably one of his old songs. might be called something like, Blow by Blow.
or I could be confusing him with the guy who now runs spitfire audio.
I probably am come to think of it. sorry nick!

I'm not sure I even saw this before it was edited by the mod -- but I suspect it's almost funnier this way...

Most good music is the sum total of experts in many areas coming together to roll and re-roll raw material until it's the most delicious smoke it could possibly be.

I've got a Bushells tea-bag, some 2 ply toilet paper and the spit from my own tongue to work with.

So don't worry...smoke 'em if you got 'em
