Ha! I feel your pain. I started a thread years ago complaining about EVERYONE following up their 3 paragraph explanation with..... "with that being said".... urgh.. it's funny that it got under my skin that much.

With that being said, I hope everyone had a great Christmas.

well, that's just your opinion that it ain't right

It is a minefield and care is required. I would rather regularly confront a sea of repetitious IMOs than have to roll my eyes at yet another person's subjective opinion presented as if it were handed down from Audio Mt. Sinai.

I like to mix it up and use alternative phrases. Sometimes I use "to me" or "for me"; and you can easily add a "maybe" or a "perhaps" to anything that might provoke violent disagreement. I think it is also important when explaining something to newbies to be excruciatingly neutral on the typical controversies. Which doesn't mean I can't let my disdain for the other position sneak in-between the lines.

Sometimes when I am feeling feisty, I use IME (In My Experience) which (to me! ) carries a bit more weight. It says: I have seen people do this, I have been there.

a) IMO, vanilla ice cream tastes better than chocolate ice cream
b) IME, there are fewer options for vanilla ice cream at the supermarket

you can call me flat-out wrong on "a)"
you can only cite your own experience at your own local supermarkets on "b)"

In fact, a perfunctory IMO does not really relieve the poster of responsibility to avoid presenting his opinion as fact. Especially when the fact is demonstrably false.

"the Earth is flat, IMO", is going to get some serious blowback regardless of the 'IMO'.

It's kind of like "just sayin'". People think they can say any messed-up thing to you, and as long as follow it with "just sayin'" they are somehow relieved of responsibility for the insult.

Well its egregious and despicable none the less.....IMHO
I'm going to add the H this year just to switch it up. This will give the impression that even though I hate the initials, I'm a humble guy. This should make everyone feel guilty for making me use them.

*Have a great successful year everyone.

What does this have to do with music? I was castrated for not posting music oriented stuff here. Why?

I don't know. In my opnion it's more annoying that some people present their totally biased opinion (this synthesizer sounds better than the other) as fact.
Probably, as far as I know, they don't have learned the mechanism to try seperate provable, repeatable fact from a subjective emotional response, in anything they do. Which is not often noticable, usually, because most people follow a generally determined set of opinions, rules, habits, often called culture. Consumer society promotes this mindset, it's easier to sell products to a population who are "going with the flow" instead of making logical decisions about anything.
However, if you go into the nitty-gritty of thought processes, the "rational logical thought processes" are at the basic level made up of emotional building blocks in our brain.
So yes, everything is your opinion and nothing more. It might be logical, but comes from your unique perspective.
With that said, I think "hate" is a bit of a strong word, isn't it? For reading someone's linguistic abberations. It's lazy, really, to not use, and write out the real words. Sure, it's faster, and most people understand what you mean. But language is beautiful. Embrace it (please)? So, from my point of view, "IMO" is the MP3 of words.

IMO, the rules must have changed. Anyways, I'm out before a mod complains that I'm complaining (which I'm really not)

I’ve forgotten what “egregious” means, but I’m reasonably sure that your use of it is despicable. It’s a fact that this is only my opinion.
This thread is fairly amusing (again, fact!).

Sometimes you ARE stating a fact.

I’d love to help you answer this important question. But how can I tell if you’re real? I get calls from artificial people all the time. They are getting better and better at pretending to be real. Their grammar is impeccable.
You could be a Russian bot with time to fill between elections. As may any of us. There may only be a few real people left on any forum.
But let’s just go ahead and act as if everyone is real.
