rookie help, puhlease!

I'm new to hip hop production, I've been doing house and progressive trance for a awhile. I guess I am having a hard time adapting, because everytime I try to lay down a beat its off, and it doesn't lay correctly on the grid. I am using logic pro, and I'm wondering is it my technique or should I change the grid, I mean I am at a loss for words here. I cannot even lay down a basic beat, when I quantize it, the beat its even more off unless I use 1/64, which I do not think I should be using. anyway is there anyone who can shed a little light on problem, thanx in advance.

Grid, schmid!

Forget the grid, maybe.

Or you can manually drag the notes into place.
