Couple of really interesting videos from Spitfire Audio:
The first relates to mixing for film and surround; the second explains the limitations and possibilities of scoring for celli and has an interesting history of the instrument.

I'm really enjoying this channel; discussions about music industry, methods, techniques at a local level (from Bay area but applicable globally). It covers topics such as: the day-to-day running of businesses; finance; trials-and-tribulations; equipment, software; studio space/premises; balancing work and home-life; etc....just like a couple of guys chatting in the studio or pub. Now with video (the previous podcasts are worth a listen too):

The channel is sponsored by Gearslutz (and others); the interviews and channel are hosted by Matt Boudreau: http://www.workingclassaudio.com/mat...eau-your-host/

Hope you don't mind me posting in here Arthur, I found this TV station tucked away in the schedules the other day and thought I'd share: HeyDay TV

I managed to catch the tail end of a documentary about Led Zep 4 that looked interesting. Similarly a documentary on Deep Purple.

Look at the schedule for January: HeyDay TV Katie Price aside, something for everyone there

You're welcome and thanks for posting - that channel looks really interesting...lot's of classic stuff I haven't seen/heard before.

Basically I started the thread to avoid posting a new thread for each TV show or video; please feel free to post as much as you like...that goes for everyone too.

Another great video from Spitfire Audio with flautist Andy Frinton - a real insight into the flute and session work:

...also couple of more gear-specific videos for the slutz:

There's a load more great videos on the Spitfire channel too (some linked in previous posts above). Recommended.

Allen Sides interviewed (audio podcast) by Larry Crane of TapeOp; cool discussion about amazing studios and gear: http://tapeop.com/podcasts/episode-8-allen-sides

Ocean Way Recording began in a garage in Santa Monica, California, in 1968, as a place to showcase owner Allen Side's custom monitors. From these humble beginnings the empire expanded to include partnering with Bill Putnam and acquiring his United Recording Studio in Hollywood...

Yes. It'd be interesting for the test to be repeated with the mixers/producers he references; if their hearing is compromised but they're still able to produce excellent sonic standards that suggests an internal reference (perhaps a group of neurons that specialise in compensating for pitch/dB).

I like Rick's channel, lot's of useful info on advanced music concepts - but I still hear a difference between mp3/wav

I'm sure a couple of them have diminished capacity in terms of hearing, as opposed to when they were they were young - 1) that they've been exposed to loud volumes for extended periods beyond what is normal, and 2) they're middle aged men, where they've surely had some natural high frequency hearing loss.

But, as to how much it would affect their ability to mix? Some...but they're gifted in what they do, and beyond their talents, the experience and know-how they've accumulated probably is the greatest factor and determinant in how their productions will sound.

Books are also media too: currently I read Mastering Audio by Bob Katz; The Soundscape by Murray Scaffer; and The Origin of Music by various.

I also like to read about the culture of music and what really goes on behind the scenes and I've really enjoyed reading Mixerman on this. Mixerman is offering his latest writings as a pre-buy on IndieGogo so I wanted to give everyone a heads-up:

I'm not connected to Mixerman, just a fan of his writing which I'd describe as humorous, educational and 'a panacea for the ills of modern audio recording.'
I really found his audio books genuine comedy and I laughed like I haven't in years:

Great show discussing Gary Noble's (Ini Kamoze/ Miss Dynamite/lot's of cool grooves) journey through the record industry from Jamaica to NYC to Miami:

This is Working Class Audio show #181 and the host/creator Matt Boudreau focusses on themes such as: work-life balance; managing studio costs; gear; difficult situations/clients; personal biographies; and health.

It's like a cool radio show although Matt does videos occasionally; the back catalogue has some gems in it too.
