We're planning to put a small office underneath the stairs, this pic is looking up through the platform. We're also putting a small machine 'cupboard' opposite the entrance to the control room.

Soooooooooooo, more pictures, more progress (supposedly).

We've starting putting up the resilent channel that we'll fix the plasterboard ceiling to. It's very fiddly, takes about an hour to get four bits up.

We've started on the wall details too - hessian stapled into the gap between the double walls. Looks pretty damn pro even if Mark does say so himself...

We tested the air conditioners today. They work great but they're VERY VERY LOUD!!! So, we'll have to look at sound proofing the room these babies are going to sit in.

A shot of the vents sited in the rehearsal room - top one for hot air in, bottom one for cold air out. We've sited a fresh air inlet at the opposite end of each room as well.

The machines work great as I say, the 'suck' inlet holds a piece of paper to the vent and the 'blow' outlet blows the paper away. Success!

I always thought it's the other way around?!
-for heating: bottom in, top out. (freshhot air floating from bottom to top and used warm air on top gets sucked out)
-for cooling: top in, bottom out. (fresh cool air falling from top to bottom colling the top part of the room)

But what do I know?

We worked on the following theory:

The cooled air drops into the bottom of the room, as it heats it rises to be sucked back through the hot air inlet and blown back out cooled through the cold outlet.

The fresh air pipe will make sure fresh air is fed into the room so we're not constantly recycling old air.

Cheers,
Rich

Nutmeg is right on this on. Stanard HVAC is as follows, when heat: bottom is supply, top is return, and when cooling: top is supply, bottom is return.

The idea is that (when cooling) the cold air falls from the top, cooling off the room as it falls. The return grabs cooler air from the floor, and intern your AC doesn't have to work as hard to cool that air in order to cool the room. If you do it reverse, you'll have ice cold air at your feet, and sweltering air by your head. You're relying on vaccumm theory to circulate the air in your room. This can be troublesome if a door is open. Don't fight physics, use it!

Ah, ok, when you put it like that. (And an air con engineer friend of ours finally told us too)

It's no trouble to switch the supply feeds so thats what we'll do.

Cheers!

Then no sooner had the first board gone up then the job was finished (yeah right!)

Ceiling has been acoustically sealed, just needs another layer of board screwed up, sealed and then finished with paint or some such.

Cheers dude.

I'm physically and mentally drained. Really and totally. I know there are tougher things you can do in the world but for me, right now, this is the toughest thing I've ever done.

Recording clients are booked in from December 5th and then there's no stopping until March.

Hope we're ready for 'em...

Our last week in the old studio and we've closed the business for a week, we reopen in the new place on November 1st, we aim to have the place tidy and one rehearsal room fully functioning, then the week after that two rehearsal rooms then a couple of weeks after that, the studio...yikes!

Here's the first rehearsal room we'll be finishing. It's fully sealed, sanded and just waiting for a coat of paint, the floor to go in, electrical points, lighting, doors and door seals. Piece of cake!

Oh and I forgot to introduce an extra room we'll benefit from, currently it's just some joists but it'll be an iso booth for amps and storage for mics, leads, etc.

It'll be floated on top of that platform.
