What are you listening to?

Right now its Bob Dylan Oh Mercy. Possibly the most underrated album of all time. Absolutely brilliant recording, brilliant production by Lanois. I have lived this album over and over.

Grant Lee Buffalo, Mighty Joe Moon. One of my all-time favorites. What a voice.

And yes, Oh Mercy is great. "Most Of The Time" kills me every time.

Yeah, "Most Of The Time" is on the short list of songs that have brought me to tears.

Oh I've seen that guy live here in Glasgow at Renfrew Ferry. What a moaner. He is so whiney on the stage it is beyond belief. He seems to have a beef with Clapton being so hugely applauded and commercially succesful and nobody gives two fvcks about him. "I should have been up there instead of him... I'm actually sooo great but you don't know it... I've been wronged, I should have been on that stage and not here...." and all sorts of ****e between every tune. What a [email protected]

At some point I was so annoyed, I felt like shouting "shut the fvck up and play yer fvcking guitar forfvckssakes, we paid 20 quid to get in here, leave your hunch back at home and give us our money's worth..."

...and then I said "I couldn't give a fvck, and no wonder everyone else couldn't either..."

His drummer is very good by the way, he keeps throwing sticks at people while playing. Kinda funny show. If it wasn't for him and the beer, I would have left after first half hour. Still don't remember a tune of his.

Anyway... what was the topic? Oh yes, I've been listening to Mylo's Destroy Rock'n'Roll CD today. I quite liked In My Arms, the way it develops and stuff. A bit stranger genre to me, interesting things to pick up in it.

Smile Good Stuff

I ordered some old used CD's from Amazon.com: MDFMK (KMFDM), Nitzer Ebb: Showtime, Deee-Lite: World Clique, Front 242: Front by Front.

I am amazed at how much the mastering sounds different from a good contemporary record such as Shulman: Random Thoughts (probably one of the best electronic albums I've ever heard).

The MDFMK album is brilliant musically, but the mastering/mix is terrible. It's all high end. Front 242 is also lacking a lot of bass, but it's clearer. Nitzer Ebb is ok, but I can't understand why I used to like that album. Deee-Lite is a classic. I have mixed feelings about it's mix/mastering, but some songs like What Is Love? and E.S.P. still come across really well. The intro is really muddy and unclear however.

If you haven't heard Shulman, I highly suggest you check out Random Thoughts. Shulman is also scheduled for a new release this October. Shulman's mixing and mastering and composition is amazing!

The stuff that gets heavy play on my iPod (or commuter survival kit as I like to call it) lately is:

old reggae and dub, de-phazz, the Superbad OST, P-funk, lots of Brazilian esp. Jobim and Marcos Valle, and a good dose of Euro-Brazilian stuff like Soulstance, the Brazilectro collection and Nicola Conte.
