Sweetwater's Mic Drop--Can we drop a free mic(s) into YOUR studio?

Sweetwater's Mic Drop--Can we drop a free mic(s) into YOUR studio?

I hope this doesn't come across as crass commercialism, but if you win one of these packages you could do your OWN mic shootout.

If you'd like some free mics, Sweetwater is giving away $39,000 worth of mics (53 mics to 18 different winners) this month. If you like mics (and you wouldn't be here otherwise) you should get your name in the hat before the month is over. If I was eligible, you can bet I'd be entering.

WARNING: If you don't want to win a free mic, do NOT click the link below.

I got all excited to enter too, but being in the UK it means I can't.

That is too bad even for us Canadians who do order from sweetwater ! Is there a particular reason it is only for US residents ?

I checked with our resident Giveaway Guru, who explained it this way.

"It's frustrating for us too, Ariel/Hightenor. Unfortunately, there are a ton of different laws and restrictions that make it VERY hard (sometimes impossible) to run sweepstakes/giveaways in other countries. Trust us, we'd love nothing more than to open these up to our customers all around the world. Our team is (and has been) actively looking into this and hopes we can find a solution sooner than later!"

Multiple calls, and never ending email spam.

Not trolling, just stating truth.

I had not bought anything from them in about 5-6 months and the day after I sign up I got a call

Unlike most people, I do not have this bizarre addiction to my phone and rarely use it....and I get a variety of "spam" email already so I think I can handle a bit more for a shot at mics I would frankly never buy due to cost considerations.

If that's really that upsetting to anyone, they shouldn't enter.

I wish someone would ring me to talk about mics. All my phone calls are rubbish.

Try saying, hey, please stop. I did a long time ago and it seems to have worked.

I get calls or emails from SW when I order something. I think that's good customer service. If I'm in a hurry I request that they skip contact short of a real emergency, and they follow that. I get far more "deal" contacts from MF and GC.
I'm obviously still living a previous reality where SW is still a reliable good merchandiser. I don't experience them as deserving the grief.

Called me very early in the Am, got my hopes up for nothing, plus woke me up after a long session the night before. The SW questionnaire I had to answer to enter this giveaway asked about mics and mic placements. I shared about an 87 placed 3-6' back from the drum kit, waist high angled downward capsule pointing toward the top rim of kick drum etc.

So the guy calls me and asks about me entering the giveaway asking what type of music I make. I say I am an artist/ producer and freelance recording and mix engineer. He made me feel like he didn't believe me basically like I was just saying something to win a mic contest... IDK why I felt like I had to almost prove myself in a sense... Just weird...

We didn't even talk about mics

I hope I win something; I could use either Earthworks-style razor flat freq response or something like an AT 2035 for a certain texture (what I'd call fine-grained) my other vocal mics aren't getting as close to. Or super boutique to be cared for concerning humidity and non-crazy electricity supply. A good home!

My goal is to make some of the best music ever recorded in my area and I've put my money where my mouth is to the point of heart failure, but also encouraged a lot of people how important it is to have one treated room of your residence to present your talent to the world.

At the end of the day however, I'm gearing up to spend a few hundred dollars at Sweetwater this week and since I've lost every other contest in my life, figure I should wait for results because I'd order more preamps.

I had figured the winners were announced already. I would have loved to win something. I really thought I had won when they called, big letdown, not something I thought was funny either. Why is Sweetwater calling for info anyway, I thought that is what the questionnaire was for...

We all put our $ where our mouth is when we buy pro audio gear. Unfortunately some gear doesn't live up to the hype... With Sweetwater, they are a big box retailer so they need all the customers they can get. So IMO they use these contests as cold calls basically to try to gain new customers... I also have not bought anything from Sweetwater recently, even tho the constest are no purchase necessary.

Have a great day and I hope you win my man
