Curious as to why monitors on desk is bad?

I’ve always had my monitors behind my desk on stands, but I’m curious why monitors on the desk is not advised..

Is it due to the proximity to your listening position?
Is it because you need the flexibility to try speaker positions other than on the desk infront of you?

Reflections/cancellations, transfers energy to the desk, blurs audio.

But you are still dealing with reflections if your speakers are on stands behind the desk, no?

Depends on angle of incidence, there are no generalizations.

There is an appropriate saying in Real Estate. There are three thing that are important: location, location and location.

Jason is giving you excellent advice. Thank you Jason!

Do desk stands (eg: isoacoustics) combat this at all?

If you successfully decoupled your speaker from the desk, which is highly unlikely with isoacoustics stands, then you would still have to deal with phase cancellations from the desk.
