Live / Tracking / Recording Room Size

Hi there,

I am currently finalizing a financing plan for the construction of a recording studio.

My question really only concerns the size of the live rooms.
All other rooms have been clarified. The technology is also planned.

Basically, I'm just not sure if it's really worth building a large live room.
I will not record a large orchestra, but rather smaller ensembles and bands.

The finished room height will be approximately 4 meters / 13 feet.

The maximum width of the rooms can be 6-7 meters / 20-23 feet.

If I stretch the budget to the extreme, I could have a 70 square meter / 753 square feet main room and a 30 square meter secondary room.

I personally have never made sound recordings in a 70 square meter / 753 square feet room. The spaces were never larger than about 46 square meters / 500 square feet.

Therefore I have no reference whether it is really worth pushing the budget to the extreme limit.

I am sure that I would like to have 2 recording rooms. A big one and a smaller one. I have been too often in the situation that I wanted a second room with visual contact and none was there.

I want to run a professional studio.

When does a live room count as large?
Are there any standards?
What are common sizes?
What experiences are there with different sizes?
Pro and cons apart from more purchase costs?

Such questions prompted me to open this thread here and I would be happy if someone would share their experience and opinion with me!

Thank you!
