Monitor Placement 38 Rule

I have a room thats 14x40x9 Actually the room is 14x20 and opens to 25x20 in the back end. Does the 38 percent rule apply as a starting point. If so I'll start placing my monitors 15 feet from the glass and have people overdubs in the control room in from of me. Thoughts Tim

The 38% rule is a starting point. If i remember correctly it was developed based on flush mount speakers. Trial and error is the best method. Two general start points for the speakers are close to the wall as possible, or at least a few feet off the wall. There are pro control rooms with space in front for people to overdub as you described.

Even in a perfectly rectangular and symmetrical room these are just starting points, there aren't many hard and fast "rules" in acoustics.
