BUT the ammount of mass on each leaf will determine the TL at specific frequencies. You need to determine your requirements and go from there. How loud can you be/are you and at what frequencies?

Try out this calculator instead, i'm bad at real math too, lol

Very nice.

Wife is complaining about the bass upstairs and wants to decouple
the sub-floors upon new carpet install. My wallet hurts already.

I'm building a stand alone music practice room in my garage. All the walls will be a double stud wall. Most builds describe a 1" gap between the studs. I've read that increasing that gap can increase isolation, but how much? I have a little room to play with and low frequency isolation is my biggest priority. If I increase that gap to say 6", how much benefit is there? Am I better off just sticking to 1" and having a (slightly) bigger room?

I searched the forums extensively last night and couldn't nail down the correct search words to find this info. Thanks in advance.
Read the threadn. It is the space between the leafs, not the studs, that is iimportant.

Drywall, 3.5" stud, 4" space, 3.5" stud, drywall = 11" airgap

Drywall, 5.5" stud 2" space, 5.5" stud, drywall = 13" airgap
