Cuboid Pedestal Bass Traps in home theatre

I have my home theatre treated with some GIK acoustic panels and I'm happy with the way it sounds.
I have 4 statues that I want to have on pedestals on the outer sides of the right and left front speakers.
Without putting much thought into it I started buying acrylic 300mmx300mmx500mm pedestals.
With two of these pedestals I've installed I'm now wondering what adverse effects I have created and will further create with two more.
Possibly a maze of reflection points right by the speakers.

I've had the thought that instead I could make four 300mmx300mmx500mm pedestal wooden frames. Fill them with insulation and cover them in cloth. That way I'm removing the added reflections and actually adding more absorption.

If I am correct on this can anyone advise what I should put in them at that size and also whats best to cover them with?
