About to mess up my LARGE Superchunks?

I've just finished building the framework for my four corner Superchunks. They are 600mm deep from the very corner of the room to diagonal facing edge, which is 1200mm across. 3m high. They're pretty big.

I've got Rockwool RWA45 slabs (45kg/m3) but now reading some threads saying the lighter fluffy stuff is better performing for the larger superchunks.

Can anyone clarify what I should be using before I carve up the rockwool slabs into triangles!

Thanks.

The lighter, fluffy insulation will be better for fully filled superchunks.

Sadly, not what I wanted to hear.

Does anyone know the performance difference between using the rockwool slabs and fluffy fibreglass insulation for superchunks of this size?

I've got 15 packs of RWA45 and I'd obviously have to weigh up the costs of buying something different against performance.

Thanks.

You can compare it by calculating:

Rockwool Sonorock
• Absorber 1
600mm Porous Absorbent, 6000 Pa.s/m2
Rigid backing
Random incidence

Your stuff:
• Absorber 2
600mm Porous Absorbent, ~ 13000 Pa.s/m2
Rigid backing
Random incidence

How deep does your speakers go? Wouldn't it be possible to slightly loosen the wool with e.g a needle. I think I would not exchange the wool.

See attached for modeling of rwa45 vs light fluffy fiber. (Light performs better)

Also, if you can go bigger, it'll be worth it. I'd cover the entire back wall 600-900mm thick if you can swing it. It takes lots of volume to successfully tame the low end.

Jason told you the truth. Use the RW45 as a front about 100 mm deep.
