Writing songs for your voice

I've been writing songs for my band and tailored a lot of stuff towards our vocalists sound. I am now trying to write for solo stuff, and am having trouble finding my genre and what fits me best vocally. Any suggestions on finding your own personal niche and what fits you best when writing lyrics/music?

Record yourself singing covers of a bunch of different songs you like in different styles, trying to mimic the different voices of the original singers. They don't have to be fully finished covers, you can just sing along to the original recording in headphones and record your voice then listen back to it acapella.

Then figure out which sounds best and the most "like a record." The style that best suits your voice may not be the style that you initially think you want to pursue. This should get you in the rough ballpark of where you should be though and from there you can develop your own personal style based on that starting point.
