Thanks for that observation. I'll pull it up and listen for that. Thanks for listening.

Wow! Those first two were old school and nothing short of freaking amazing! That was some damn fine playing by all of you! Loved that third one, too, of course, but those first two? Damn. It doesn't get any better than that, bgood. I'm still listening to DejaKungFoo. At about 6:00 you're really cookin'.

Continuing to listen to your playlist, bgood. A few I've heard before and they're nice to hear again. You have a variety of musical styles and every song is outstanding! My God, bgood, what talent you and your friends have!

You’re too kind!

Holy Cow! You are my new God.

The guitar player on the first two tracks reminded me of a young George Benson, back when he was playing with Brother Jack McDuff. And the sax was wonderful, too, reminding me of the sax greats from back in the day.

I already knew you were really good, bgood, but I didn't see it coming. Those first two songs - I was stopped-in-my-tracks stunned by what I was hearing.

Love the song and the mix but the vocals sound a bit distorted/muffled. Would like to hear them more up front and a little more top end to them. Otherwise, this is ready for the radio in some era.

Production wise it sounds good. Musically, a bit generic. Another lead guitar would probably help. Song really does beg for a vocal of some kind. The riffs by themselves don't really carry the song. But this is without a doubt a great backing track. Just needs something to finish it off.

Sounds great to me. Very strong production. It definitely is a fantastic time to have a home studio, isn't it?

Short Parade (Electric)

So just as I was finishing my last tune my Eleven Rack started smoking. I have been using that 11R as my interface for the last seven years and I guess that constant use was just too much for it.

So last week I took delivery of an Audient iD22 and a Line 6 Helix unit for my electric guitar sounds. I don't do any electric guitar based stuff but I do like to uncase the old SG for some accompaniment for my acoustic stuff.

I threw this test track together over the weekend to see what I am now dealing with using the Audient and the Helix. It's an old tune that I first recorded a dozen or so years age....but NOT this way.

There is NO acoustic guitar in this. Instead there are four different Helix rigs, including a seriously over the top dual rectified lead. I couldn't resist trying to fit that in. Definitely not my usual style....as you'll surely notice.....but I really wanted to test out the unit as best I could relative to my limited electric guitar skills. The old EB3 bass even went though one of their bass rigs.

I'll appreciate any opinions on what this helix sounds like.

The Tones sound clear and articulate well. curious why you chose the Helix
over some very popular (and less expensive ) plug ins?
the sounds fit nicely in the song and nice mix as well!

Thanks for that observation about those guitar tones. I have always liked to get my sounds going in rather than generating them through plugins. I don't have any MIDI going on. My keyboard generated synth sounds come from a 90's era Ensoniq rack unit.

My research led me back to Line 6. I was a Pod Pro user back around the turn of the century. The HX Stomp is the less expensive way to get those same Helix sounds. It's really a glorified stomp box but it works great going into my new Audient id22 as just an outboard amp emulator.

Helix definitely stomps all over Eleven rack for this application, imo so far.

Thanks for listening and for your interest....and especially for that comment about the mix.

There's a little distortion on the chorus just to make it pop through the wall of sound... in the verses that FX isn't there... Is that what you're hearing?

If not, perhaps it's just my sh^tty mixing and I should just stick to the writing an playing and singing part lol

It all sounds fine I just wonder if the bass is not in mono or if a low pass filter is making it sound airy.

The bass is definitely in mono... it’s a p-bass... I’ve never considered a stereo bass buss... jus figured it would suck up more headroom. hmmm

Well then Im just being too specific about the bass eq. The vocals sound good on this mix.
