Nice. I'm getting a Ben Folds vibe on some of it. Confessional singer songwriter vibe. Cool Do you gig regularly? Where?

Here's my latest tune. I have a friend who just made a low budget suspense/horror film and I wrote this song based on the script. I don't know if the movie will ever amount to anything or not, but this will be the song during the end credits. The movie is titled, "Brutal". The song was mixed by James Lugo and mastered by Tom Waltz. I recorded/performed everything but the drums here in my little home studio.

any constructive criticism welcome.

cheers,
Steve

Anyway this one is about done but i'm still tweaking the mix.

I am sooooo not up on what's hot in country music these days, but this tune sounds a lot like that stuff right on the line between southern style rock and modern country. It sounds to me every bit as good as a lot of the stuff I've heard on the radio. I'm no country fan, but this is a good song with good hooks imo.

cheers,
Steve

Love these. Like warm sunshine. To write something that is kind, uplifting, honest and joyful that doesn't make me want to vomit is an extremely rare thing. Congratulations, they are really great!

...downtempo jazzy and modern...

Hello! And thanks for 'clicking in'! I would appriciate your candid critique on this track-my latest. What are your thoughts on the mix, arrangement, etc etc

This track was inspired by the brand new Kemper Profiling Amplifier. The guitar (Fender Stratocaster)however is not the main focus of the track. Not everyone can be a 'guitar hero'? Still I'm really liking how warm the amp sounds. I always had a hard time getting nice phatt clean guitar sounds into the mix up till now. The Fender Jazz bass too is going through the Kemper Amp.

Song from summer va

Hey, does this all make us songslutz as well ???

Well, here's my most recent track: written originally by me, it was sort of stuck between early and mid-demo stages when a Swedish friend - Patrick Rydman - sent me a revoiced piano version that had me droolling and I managed to get him down here for a weekend writing session where it became a co-write. Just finished the mix... let me know what you think.

Oh and it's not supposed to sound 'modern'...

Well first off I think its a great track, real warm sounding and smooth. Is your stuff always instrumental ? It seems quite an art to stretch a single riff out to 5 mins - I've never done it myself.. well done.

My only real crit is around the bleepy synth solo sound happening twice in much the same style. I think I'd want it to evolve/do something different.

Bass and guitar real nice sounding

"Lifeline"

This is one that I don't feel I can go much further with. I'm the vocalist, and while I'm not thrilled with my performance, it's for the most part decent.

Hope you'll listen - I am really interested in feedback! Lyrics are below:

Cheers,
Dave
-------------------------------

Lifeline

What I miss, what I miss most
Is the devil in your eyes and the angel in your soul
And I want just to know you're well
That the angel hasn't left, that the devil's raising hell

Five years is a long time, someone becomes your lifeline
They pick you up and make you shine, save you when you're sinking

Oh, this is what we do
You save me and I save you
Lose ourselves and need to be rescued
No matter how hard it gets
Even if it leaves us fighting for breath
Love is strong enough to pull us from the darkness

When all my drifting ends, maybe I'll find love again
It'll never be the same, even if I could pretend
'Cause your voice echoes in my head
And a part of me longs for silence, but it never seems to fade

Five years is a long time, someone becomes your lifeline
They find you in the nick of time just as you stop believing

Now everything's a shade of grey
And all my strength has drained away
I'm just a man who's overboard
And no one's there to hear me calling

Oh, this is what we do
You save me and I save you
Lose ourselves and need to be rescued
No matter how hard it gets
Or even if it leaves us fighting for breath
Love is strong enough to pull us from the darkness

And I need your lifeline now
I need your lifeline now
I need your lifeline now

Perfect critique! Just what I needed to hear and I completely agree! I'm going to cut that out and shorten the track or put some more time into it and have it evolve...great sugestion!

Thanks so much for your time!

Holy crap. I'm pleasantly surprised at the quality of the songwriting here. I'm going to post some of my songs after I get em up on SoundCloud.

The ones that really stood out for me so far were pinkheadedbug & guittarzzan's songs (nice work, great feel & mood inducing).

My biggest issue has always been doing the rhythm section stuff. I ended up doing very basic drums in Acid on my songs. I didn't even do any bass tracks. I discovered I have absolutely no interest in learning those things to get it to a point where they don't sound like a guitar player "playing" the bass or drums..lol.

In the future I'm going to farm out those parts for the bed tracks & then do my thing over them.

Anyway, glad I found this new forum thread here.

Great song and great production.
I had to bypass my mastering gear because it was so polished.

I wish I had time to comment on every song, there are some real gems in here.
