This was recorded on the KSM44 btw.
It needs bass for some movement. the vocals have no bass movement to follow. The beat seems carelessly thrown together, some sort of synth instrument on the hook and a more catchy hook would help.

How's the mix?

Thanks
I enjoy listening to your material, I find it very palatable.
I noticed, maybe since the acquisition of your new speakers, your songs becoming more open, airy and natural sounding.
Headroom, maybe?

I noticed a change around the posting of "The fun room", which I also like.

I enjoy listening to The Doors and The Coral and lots of other stuff, that's not a million miles away.
A thumbs up from me.

If I could achieve similar results, I would be very pleased.

P.S I'm currently listening through the speakers on a HP monitor.

I think you're bang on about the speakers. I was frustrated for ages using 5 inch Mackies...never quite getting anywhere near what I thought the sound should be. Getting the 8" Yamahas definitely opened up a much broader frequency range, I guess.

At the same time I stopped some of the bad practices I'd picked up (probably because of the 5" Mackies)...such as constantly chasing 'rogue' frequencies by using a sharp Q and scanning around looking for offensive frequency areas and then notching the hell out of them. I somehow got onto this practice thinking I was doing a lot of good...but I learned to stop that and just make much more simple eq moves...

I also found myself way more aware of the mid-range. I had been scooping a lot around 200-500...but this was a bit stupid because that's a key area for translation to smaller/ general listening mediums.

I've also made better use of my Avantone Mixcubes...75% of the mix is done just on them before ever even turning on the Yamahas. As they say....if you can get it sounding good on the Cubes, it stands a chance.

I'd like this particular track to have been a bit more open. There's a number of things competing in the mix with a similar footprint...piano, glockenspiel, Rhodes vst etc. It's alright though.

Thanks for your kind words

I recorded a short demo in a roots rock/blues vein. I used an XLN drum loop until I can get some real drums in there.Thinking about removing some of the guitars during the verse to open it up a bit. Anyone care to listen?

Been a while since I've mixed something like this, came out decent, me thinks. And it kind of sounds like something out of a fighting game. So witness my shoddy guitar technique and average video editing skills in glorious 4K! (And if you'd like to get feedback on your track just link it in the comments! )

Agree with the earlier post in that the vocals need to be turned up a notch. I would also turn down the drums a notch and get a little more high end on them, they need a bit more snap IMO. Otherwise

Pretty cloudy/muddy in that 60s rock kinda way, which I'm guessing you went for, so good there (though personally I would still open it up a bit)...otherwise not much to suggest offhand!

The Monster Inside Her

Another song written and performed by my daughter.

Its just Piano now. Will probably add strings and other instrumentation - we'll see what fits.

"BREATHE" Pink Floyd Cover

I'm working on a project (FLOYD Project 2018) of 7 Pink Floyd covers.
How does this one sound? I think it's the most finished so far.

Hey guys, just finished up a late night mixing session with headphones ONLY (HPs being Audio Technica ATH mx70 with Sonarworks Reference 4.1 (average) calibration + the CanOpener plugin). Let me know how what you think, the song is new too:

Good tune, man. For me the vocal treatment really makes the whole song work.

Am I hearing a cowbell sneaking in there at around 1:04?

Love how you find another gear right in the middle of the tune.

Good mix.

You can ask me if you like - but when it’s cold
I’ll light a fire for you
If you need someone to care -just to hold
I’ll fill that desire too
When your troubled and down
I will bring you delight
Through thick and thin I’ll stick around
I’ll be here both, day and night

Chorus

I’ll be right here with you
To light a fire on a cold winters day
I’ll be right here with you
Sharing what ever comes our way
Take a trip see the world
Or just a walk down the street
I’ll be right here with you
It’s a promise that I'll always keep

Repeat chorus

If bad luck should come your way - and make you sad
I’ll cure that sadness in you
When you have something to share - makes you glad
I’ll share in your gladness too
When there’s nothing to do
I’ll make it your leisure
When there’s to much you’re going through
I’ll turn your day to pleasure

Repeat chorus

It can be a cold cold world
And sometimes it gets even colder
I’ll be here to keep you warm
As life goes on - as we grow older

Thank you for the kind feedback, really appreciate it.

Writing/performing/producing this particular song was a very intense process and honestly also quite emotional. The song definitely is not a summer hit but nonetheless it really resonated strongly within me since the very first steps into creating it.. I am sure you have felt this many times with your own creative process. :-)

edit: Yes that definitely is a cowbell you are hearing :-)

Here's a song I tracked & Mixed for a band we did 4 songs in 7 hours "tracking", then I mixed it a couple weeks later. Tracked and mixed this in my half of garage that I made into a studio room. The drums were broken down into a 4 piece not as seen in the picture.

The pause between my, ,better, and angels is off putting. The end of the song where you go to the high note, I did not care for.

this video was valuable to me and still is.
