Not following the "too earnest/polite" thing, IMO this works well. At first I was going to say whoa, way too heavy on the reverb/echo/etc, but it seems clear to me you went heavy on purpose for effect, and as I listened more, I think it works.

I didn't get any "Zep vibe" there but IMO that's a good thing And "Eagles/EJ" is a good way to describe it. Needs a little less mid-range IMO, a little more of the highs and lows.

Thanks bud, now, I'm going to assume that high-end means more treble, which is the opposite of what I feel the track needs, I would like to add slightly more bass to it, although I appreciate the feedback, and I'll have a go at altering the mix as you suggest, always interesting playing about with things.

Your Monitoring Ststem?

I thought it would be cool and relevant to this this thread
to see what everybody was using for monitoring when
they are listening to other peoples songs on here.

I think it could give us all good insights on things.

So, anybody who wants to, tell us your monitoring chain.

----------------------------------------------------------------
My recording/mixing computer never goes online unless
I need an update that I can't get any other way-
Gateway desktop i7 8gb Windows 7 >
M-Audio Project Mix i/o firewire audio interface/control surface >
PreSonus central station passive speaker controller >
Speakers A = Yamaha HS5 nearfields.
Speakers B = M-Audio BX8a nearfields.
Subwoofer = Polk Audio 10".

--------------------------------------------------------
So I'm usually listening on my internet computer-
Dell desktop i5 8gb Windows 10 >
Edirol UA-5 usb audio interface >
Samson MediaOneBT4 (cheap 4" nearfield monitors that
sound surprisingly good for what they are).

and/or
Pioneer VSX-406 stereo receiver >
Yamaha 5" bookshelf speakers.

Thanks, Tom
I like the track. Maybe could use a little De-Essing on the vocals? It might be me though, I just took some medication.

JBL 4311b monitors; your setup is very nice, ccouch7! How do you like the subwoofer?

Thanks!
The sub does ok, I don't use it all the time, more for just
checking the bottom every now and then.
I'd like to upgrade the sub to something a little better
pretty soon.

Made this weird, "dream state" like instrumental. I'm in the process of recruiting a vocalist to sing some melodic groove to it. Am I too crazy to think anyone would want to sing on this?

Really great tunes on this thread, keep up the great work everyone (I believe the best music is being made "on the street" now, it is so refreshing).

Anyway, here is another tune of mine, blues based this time. That's me on everything, live acoustic drums, electric bass, B3, electric guitar, and sampler programming (tune also tracked, mixed and mastered by me as well).

Hope someone enjoys this.... I put a LOT of time into it.

That definitely shows. This is a great listen. That intro sets you up for a somewhat eclectic and slightly left of center journey through the blues....and that outro definitely takes you back down perfectly.

Love the drums and that B3.....and the guitars, of course.

Connective Unconscious, a tune by my electronics band, Perverted Technology Inc (as opposed to my Punk Noir band, Flirt With Danger). It's actually one I came up with many years ago as part of another band, Nitrogen Geezers, but felt the main theme from it was too good to disappear into the aether.

I've been posting "finished" songs various places, but nowhere with a real engineering angle. I finished this fairly quickly. I hadn't completed anything in a while, so I sort of pushed this out. Of course the next day I got some new toys that I wanted to throw on it, but I'm a bit against going back and tweaking "finished" things, though it's not like anyone is looking haha. Anyway, enjoy. I think the mix is a little weak, no real low end, but maybe it suits it.

Agree, there's no low end, but disagree it suits. Sounds very washed out to me, even the highs aren't clear IMO. Not sure what kind of effects you used but I think you overdid it

Yeah it's certainly not a "typical" mix or anything. I wanted it noisy for sure, but I think I did overdo it haha. It's basically lofi. Maybe I will go back and tweak it.
