Agreed w/the others, really well done. I shudder to think of trying something that complex myself. If you want a nit-pick, I think the horns could be a touch more prominent and overall it could have a little more high end, but again those are really nit-picks.

Blades

Greetings.

First post here, seems like a great forum. Already learning from this forum!

The song was done on Cubase 8 using EZDrummer for drums. I play the music and my buddy sings. I'm a neophyte doing the recording and am still not sure on the vocal levels. Still trying to get a better drum sound from EZDrummer, but it's getting there.

Thanks for listening and please provide your thoughts.

Ken

Nice song and the verses sounded beautiful! But I did not like the swoshing drum sound that came in during the choruses. With something else to mark "here is the chorus" it would have been even nicer

Good overall IMO, my only thoughts offhand are I think the vocals should be a little less prominent (maybe just a question of turning down the volume a hair) and the rest just seemed to need a little more "presence" IMO. Hard to explain...and maybe easing off the vocals will give that by default. Also it all seemed a little too huddled in the middle (I'm tempted to say "muddy" but not sure that's really it); IMO maybe try some panning?

I seem to say this a lot so take that into account (i.e. probably best to disregard lol), but again I feel just a little too much mid-range and would've liked it a little brighter. Anyone else feel similar? It's minor though and IMO well done on the whole.

Ah, but the midrange: isn't that where all the magic happens! ?

Lyrics in Swedish but it's inspired by this if anyone wants to know: Mother Teresa: " Do It Anyway" (The Prayer Foundation).
Nice tight and full bottom, very captivating panning decisions, very cool breathy lead vocals and some very tasty electric guitars.

very nice mix.

Latest track, a bit sentimental. It's got strings, it's got mellotron, it's got cello and big fat choirs. :-)

I have no idea what "Genelec monitoring" is but agree that this was really well produced. Can't think of anything offhand I would change.

Haha. Just means I bought new monitor speakers. Really changes how you perceive the music. But thanks!

Hi, here my music made just in Jun and July. It is more oriented to the classical/orchestral music. The order of creation is first the last ones. I have learnt a lot of music the past month so it is reflected in the music and its progress. I am not a pro, but I will study music the next year. I would appreciate your feedback, as I would like to know the opinion of people from other parts of the world (I am from Chile).

Theme for piano, classical structure.

https://soundcloud.com/donethur/piano-theme

Theme classical style with folk roots.

https://soundcloud.com/donethur/classical-theme

Folk stuff, with popular music base, but with orchestra. It maybe needs more work over the sound, but I like the main melody.

https://soundcloud.com/donethur/march-2017

Waltz based in popular music (not the typical classical structure), but I like it as it is.

Hey, that was fantastic. Sounds absolutely beautiful!!

But one spontaneous thought:
I have zero credentials in classical composition but a reflection from me as an amateur is that the music is constantly intense. Sort of "16ths all the way" if you get what I mean. Very skillfully executed but perhaps the emotional impact would improve if there was more slow-moving parts?

But it's a side note. Again: sounds lovely and accomplished!

Thanks mate. I think you are right, specifically in the orchestral stuff. Those were more inspired by folk, but I know what you mean. I will consider this in the next orchestral theme. My only problem now is that I need better strings, which are usually what I love the most for such parts, not only in the melody, but also in the arrangements (The allegretto of the Beethoven's 7th symphony comes into my mind, how the strings draw those beautiful and perfect slow passages). I am using Albion for the strings, the ones I like the most now, and the sustains are not enough, I need more articulations.

Your comment is very appreciated

Here's a collaborative effort with Nic Evennett. Check out Nic Evennett here: https://soundcloud.com/wingless-night

All I had to do on this one is play some guitar, sing and do a bit of mixing.....Nic took this one and made it special.

Really like this. Has hints of the band America and other 70's songwriters I like. Like the melody of the chorus and the backrounds. Nice job.

Hey guys, decided to drop this here.

I actually just wanted opinions/help with the vocals, I really have horrible anxiety/worry about them, tbh I feel like they suck even though by this time I think I've tried my best on them.

I made the music in less than a week or so but I've been tinkering with the vocals for more than a year!!!!! while working on other projects, on and off of course, and I'm still not really satisfied but I decided to "self-release" it on my own because otherwise I will just never release anything.

Well my former band mate pushed me to do it and he kept telling me it's fine and I'm too much of a perfectionist but I think he may have low standards.

I really don't have any specialists in this field in real life and I get mixed opinions on vocals from random people who listen to way different stuff, so I have to ask you kind people, is there anything obvious I can improve that I missed?

And if there's no hope for me, should I get a vocalist? And how?

I hear that something is wrong/weak but I really can't tell what to improve.

If you need to hear them in another context for your opinion, I have two other songs on that channel

I really just want comments about my vocals, as I am for some reason almost unable to judge them, I feel like I have a more or less good perception of whether my instrumental music is any good.

Sharing this is kind off hard as I feel almost embarrassed, like I'm sharing something really lame with you but there's no other way to progress so yeah.

Thank you.

If anything, you're a better vocalist than Leonard Cohen, although that's not much of a compliment. Heh. But your music is pure Leonard Cohen/Tom Waits kind of stuff, so the potential audience for your music would already be used to and expect such a singing style, I imagine. Loved Christmas Song.

Hey, thanks for the comment.

Well I don't really like it myself, and I think if I can't trust my own ears than I don't know why I'm even bothering with music. The whole point for me to make music is to make something I understand and like.

I actually went to a vocal coach once and they literally said I'm fine, that that's my voice, I can't change my voice and that that's just how I sound.....

I think I will try to sing a lower register and semi-whisper for the rest where I like how I sound more but I don't know how to fit it in songs, the only thing that comes to my mind is Swans/Bark Psychosis. If that doesn't work than I need to go into therapy lol.

I can't continue singing like this though, it's just pure masochism for me...
