Lives for gear

Measuring pitch variance does not measure melody variation because it doesn't account for rhythm and there is no melody without rhythm.

Do it again but this time include rhythm of the melody as an input.

To be honest, I couldn't listen to more than a minute or two from either -- thought he Gaga video looked TERRIFIC. (Selena's vid managed to waste an amusing karaoke setup but maybe it got better.)

One thing that's going on is that the extra layers of tuning really make Gomez sound like a buzzy little bot, whereas there's more vocal quality left in Gaga's tune-job and it allows a bit more of an explicit evocation of melody. Helping, I guess, is the fact that Gaga can sing. (Maybe Gomez can, too, but I've never heard her try, I don't think.)
