Can you name your top five influences?

Can you name your top five influences?

I went around for years saying, "Oh, my influences are far too expansive to list." Until some time ago, I realised that I'd been fooling myself.

I decided that I could easily see my top ten influences in my work, but that didn't satisfy me. I wanted to look at my work critically and get to where I could bust it down to five. They are, in no particular order:

1) The Ozark Mountain Daredevils
2) Acoustic Alchemy
3) Tom Waits
4) Roger Miller
5) Kansas

Anybody else wanna give it a go?

Been a while, nice to see you!

There are so many great writers. But if you listen to my stuff,* you'll probably think, "Oh, he stole that from..."

Roger Miller, Shel Silverstein, Randy Newman, Ray Davies, Hank Williams.

Your inclusion of Zep makes the actual list much longer. :-)

In no particular order of importance:

Kate Bush
Neil Young
James Taylor
Ray Davies
The Beatles

It probably goes without saying that my music bears very little resemblance to any of them!

Thanks Brent. I've been a mile wide and an inch deep for the past year or so.

WOW! Kate Bush made it here twice!

Impressive.

I get that littleeden. I would venture to guess that my aforementioned influences would go unnoticed in my work, but the impression that they made was a lasting one.

Sums it up for me. And I'm not fooling myself. I think.

Your list is great though. Those first 2 esp amazed me. Love the "electicness" of it.
