ART VLA II Tube Swap Audio Samples

ART VLA II Tube Swap Audio Samples

Since I'm waiting for new monitors to arrive and have none at the moment, means I got downtime. Which means I'm bored so I decided to swap the tubes out of the ever-so-affordable ART VLA II compressor. I went down to guitar center and picked up a couple of Russian made 12AT7 Groove Tubes (Re-branded Sovteks?). I've heard people say swapping the tube does nothing, some say it does. Judge for yourself.

I am sending a snare track via insert from Logic through Apogee converters, into the VLA and back into the Apogee.

I'll keep posting more samples but the first one is a snare track.

Let me know what you guys think.

I personally think the Groove Tube sounds much better than the stock Chinese one. It's subtle, but thicker.

Forgot to mention the compressor settings. They're both the same, however the GT seems to provide more output than the stock chinese one so they were gain matched within Logic using a trim plugin.

Threshold: 9 'o clock
Ratio: 4:1
Attack: 50ms
Release: 0.15ms

Here's some vocal samples.

The stock tube sounds like it's breaking up easily.

Threshold, and Ratio are the same. Attack and release set both to 12:00
