LA Slutz- Soundcastle?

Does anyone know what happened to Soundcastle in Silverlake? They seem to have moved to Santa Monica, I'm wondering who has the building now, if the rooms are still there. I'm looking for a place to track strings next week, that location would be pretty convenient and I remember the big room seemed pretty nice sounding, from the one time I visited the place a few years ago. I'm also open to other suggestions and/or offers.

My buddy Thom Roy was the head tech and worked and maintained both studios. The second studio that was behind Studio A I believe went to Dr. Dre from what I understood. I parked my car next to his one day I was there :-). Yes Josh Abraham took over the front Studio A. Buddy King owned the whole thing for years and different people managed it. Then it was sold... What a great sounding room. (studio A) I got to hear some of the last Weezer album as Josh A. was doing some more mixes and backups at Soundcastle on the SSL G+ great console! I was hoping to do more there as I was getting more of the projects from my smaller project studio ready for the big studio, so I was bummed that it was sold.
Good times, good times...
Thom (genious guy) is doing other stuff now and the soundcastle people are doing some multimedia stuff but have a few smaller places to do sound I think...
Anybody else work at Soundcastle?

I worked there many years... most notably on songs from Tupac's "Me Against the World" and "Are You Still Down".

Candace Corn was the manager there before moving over to Cello.
She was always so helpful! What a sweet person!

Lots of paper in those monitors in studio A . I was able to knock much sand out of the walls with those babies! They had an old 6000 SSL in there before they built the new studio in the back... and eventually moved the G+ that was installed in the back up to the front and put in a 72 input Neve V... one of the first with dynamics metering.

Buddy liked to have the latest gear... I remember using some vertical Avalon EQ's there. They went through a period when they were doing a bit of post work, and had several suites with some SSL workstations, but music eventually won out. I don't think the cultures meshed too well!

I mixed Felony's Vigilante album there in 85 on the Neve 8128 with the Necam III system. I remember renting a bunch of outboard for it as Buddy either had it tied up in the SSL room or he wanted too much for the "rental". One day we waited 2 hours for a Lexicon 200 to show so we could use it on the kick drum. That was the eighties when every track had a different reverb on it.

We called them "The Days of Lines and Noses".

I recorded Juice Newton's QUEEN OF HEARTS at Soundcastle. I think Bill Bottrell was on staff there at the time. It was a great studio.

Candace Stewart now maybe? She managed at Soundcastle and Cello and is currently the manager @ EastWest Studios in the Cello building. Got a pretty stellar room for strings. EASTWEST Recording Studios - Home

Wow. Cool info. Pulse/ Soundcastle is my main spot. I do all of Josh's records and mix there. It's interesting to hear the history of the place. Josh and I did the second 30 Seconds to Mars record there and found out it was for sale. He bought it in 2006 and we've been there since. Great sounding room and there's still a lot happening there. It's pretty much a private studio now for Pulse Publishing and for me to mix.

"Candy Corn" is her porn name... or a character from a Mixerman book

Sounds like a pretty good upgrade in today's ever-crumbling economy
