I recently picked up a Behringer ECM8000 to analyze a new room I'm in for mixing. But while looking at the specs, it looks like this microphone isn't too bad of quality, considering it's cheap price. It's heavy, has a really flat frequency response, and is omnidirectional. Would it be crazy to use this in a normal recording scenario? Has anyone done this and got good results? I was thinking of using it as a room mic or something....Maybe 5 feet in front of a drum kit.

Why not? Earthworks and DPA started out as measurement mics.
