SE Electronics SE3's. I love these things. They are almost like a medium diaphragm. Very full.

I would love to hear that setup.

I have been using a pair akg 451-E sdc's with a older U-87 as room, sounds crisp and good.

two of my best songs/recordings ever used a mono SM57 overhead!!!

passion and performance is not to be underrated, but, sometimes the trashy vibe can be really cool on cymbals

one of the classic albums of my generation "OK Computer" was said by the producer to be often "thrown down." U gotta respect the power of impulse creation and creative freewheeling. In fact the producer has stated that is that band's MO and what makes them different from other bands in how they work in the studio. Following an impulse and riding that wave to see where and how far it goes. I just think the subconscious is so powerful, and it really comes out in moments like that. That is, taking that creative genesis, that moment of songwriting, and extending it into the studio process. I think that can be really powerful.

Last weekend used a Telefunken AK47 as a mono OH, and a 57 and a 635a as cymbal spots

I love the Se3 on snare side facing the btm part of the shell/rim with 57 on top - didn't like it so much for overs

Today for a black keys-y set-up: mono coles 4038 overhead (d12e on kick & m160 snare)......BAM!

Yesterday: AT4050's cardio in ORTF into Neve-y preamp driving hard for a oldskool metal/hardrock band.

Date before that: Flea M49's in recorderman into same Neves but cleaner for a more allround mix of different styles.

It was a long time since I tried ORTF. Either I did something terribly wrong the times before or I learned new stuff but I really liked the setup.

on saturday night i used 2 sm58 without the "grillhead?" on a livegig for overheads. The PA guy forgot to take his sdc's with him. after a bit of eq i really liked it. wanna try it on a studiosession when something odd is needed. smooth cymbals and a powerful snare was the result.
I heard MARTIN/MODESKY/WOOD used it on a record. Don't know if it's true.

M-Audio Pulsar II. Sounds insane, but they can sound pretty awesome, especially for 80 dollar condensers.

Today It was M160's in a spaced pair, which is what I've been doing a lot lately. Though with a bad drummer and the wrong cymbals, I find they can be a bit s***** in the upper midrange.

None, one of my Studer/Schoeps began making a rhythmic, low-level clicking-pulsing sound.

Me not happy!

AKG c214... Those, coupled with an audix d6 on kick, and no other mics. Sounded pretty darn great.

A single sm58. Squashed pretty decently with bomb factory's 1176 plug in, sounds pretty ghetto-great.
