Studer a80 issues help!!

Please help. Thanks! I just recently purchased a Studer A80 which appeared mint and only 299 hours. I noticed that on rewind it is slow. When I turn one of the tape guide tensioners by hand, either left or right one, it goes very fast as it should. As I was doing this one of the 0.47 caps blew on the conductor board with smoke! I repaired. Now the counter just stays at zero and rewind is still slow and on occasion rewind turns in FF! bummer. Any ideas on tape tension issues/adjustments? If I push play with no tape loaded the a80 will spin. I don't think it is supposed to do this. If I turn the tape guide by hand a little it stops. Oh boy. Please help! Thanks!

mda = motor drive amplifier. This has a tendency to fry on the ampex mm1200 at least.
You have probably done this, but go through the cards under the deck and make sure nothing looks or smells burnt. then pull the power supply and start checking continuity and voltages.

(I am not a tech, but have hired a few!)
It won't be too hard for someone to get out to you in Ca.
Call up some used dealers and ask who they use for repairs.
Do you have the manual? You will need it. There is one on Ebay now.
Make sure you get the right manual for the correct version of the machine.

Also, you may want to try this post again in the Geekslutz forum

Hi danly. Thanks. I will see what I can do. I have checked the cards. all is good. I also replace all the 0.47 caps known as the fire starters! I do have the original manual. I think this is a tape tension issue. But what do I know? Its a hunch
