Advanced Audio CM47 FET vs Advanced Audio CM47 TUBE

Is the tube version worth the price difference?

I'm looking for a nice mic for male vocals.

Is this a tube or a FET Neumann:

Having never used either of those models, it's difficult to say, but they're both generally looked on quite favourably for their price. The mic in the picture is a U47, not a FET47, which has a much shorter body. Perhaps email Dave and see what he suggests, based on your voice and style of singing?

Dave seems like a pretty reasonable guy, you might be able to have both sent so you can A/B them and choose.

I have a cm47 tube, and it is an amazing microphone for male and female vocals. It's definitely a little thicker sounding than the fet version.

I've been really curious about the CM47 Fet. Do you think it stacks up to Mike Joly's Hulk 990? Would you say it's got that mid-forward sound with a thick midrange?

I haven't heard the hulk, but Joly and Dave have very similar philosophies on mics. I'm sure either would sound really great.

Those mics from Joly are quiet interesting. Haven't heard of it before.

I will put the CM47tube and the MJE-K47H on my shortlist.

Is here someone who tried both?

I did a vocal session with both recently. I found the Cm47 to sound larger with more extension in the low and high end. The Joly K47 is totally sibilance free, has a really tight low end, and a good push to the midrange. Both are great mics, but both sound pretty different.
