I need a good Mic Splitter

Hello!

I do a lot of MS recording with ribbon mics, and rather then duplicating the track and flipping the polarity in ProTools, I'd like use a mic splitter to split the signal of the side mic into two channels so that I can flip the polarity on either the splitter or the mic pre before hitting ProTools. Since it's a ribbon mic I'm often using (AEA R84), I'd like something of good quality because of the inherently low impedance of the mic.

So what's good? I'm not seeing many options, but these are available:
ART SPLITCom Pro | Sweetwater.com
ART ProSplit | Sweetwater.com
Whirlwind IMP Splitter 1X2 | Sweetwater.com

Are the ARTs good? Any experience with any of these?

Thanks!

Perfect! That's what I'm looking for.

I don't know why I didn't go to their site first, but it doesn't seem like a lot of retailers stock these.

Thanks for the quick answer!

Shops might not, but big online types will. Sweetwater, et al.

Good luck!!

I have and use one of the original ART Splitcom for years for condenser mic with no complaints at all. Haven't tried with a ribbon mic though.

For what it's worth, there is a brand that makes a dedicated Midside Processor that I've heard great things about from a few engineers locally. It's probably out of your price range, but might be worth a look. A quick good would find it I'd imagine.

I'm not an m/s guy, but why not build a mult/phase invert patch (or patchbay) cable and use post-pre? Then you aren't wasting a mic pre when I assume you want identical sound/gain. You then have an identical signal path w/o an extra tranny on one side.
