Drum set up with my mics

Hi guys,

I've got the following mics and was wondering if you guys could give me a good mic setup with them:

Neumann u87
Neumann km184
Rode NT2000
Sm57
2x sm58
Beta 52

Assuming that none of those are pairs, I'd probably put the U87 and KM184 up in midside (I'm assuming you dig the 184- I really dislike it, but that's just me) over the kit, the Rode as a room mic, 57 on snare, 58s on toms, and Beta 52 on kick.

I'd also try out the two LDCs as a spaced pair or Recorderman-style set up over the kit. I've never compared the two, so I don't know how similar they are, but it's worth a try at least.

...Haven't used all those mics but out of that I would keep it simple & see how this works out.

Kik-B-52
Sn-57
Mono OH- 184
Room- 87

Keep it mono

I would rock the U87 and Rode NT2000 for overheads. I would get a good picture of the kit and not just focusing on cymbals.

SM57 on snare top
KM184 Snare Bottom
Beta 52 on kick
SM58 on Rack and floor tom.

Try and get a ribbon mic for the room if not then-

Room sound- Altiverb or another convolution verb plugin

I would do

Beta 52 on kick
Sm57 on snare
U87 as a single overhead, over the snare

try it, i've been doing mono drums lately and they sound phat. No phase issues and you get a great sound quickly by placing the mics just right

It really depends on what the drummer is hitting for the song. That should dictate the approach.
