Would Shure SM-57 Work ?

Hi ! I' gonna start recording stuff from around my house for a project ( like dishwasher, hitting a glass with something, hitting on other metallic objects, and eventually some things outside the house) but the only mic I have as of right now is a SM-57, that I typically use for guitar, and sometimes percussions.

Since the stuff that want to record is KIND OF like percussions, I thought that the mic could work well, but another part of me tells me that a omni mic would be better.

what do you guys think ? I would go out and try it to see for myself but I am not at home for a lilttle while .

Depends on your preamp. Some of the things you mentioned recording are quiet sources. Cranking a cheap pre with a 57 could induce some noise into the recording. You could check out something like the cloud lifter, but yeah a 57 pretty much works for anything.

Not sure that an omni would be better. I'd probably reach for a cardioid SDC first.

This is the greatest thread title ever.

Pro tip: and sm57 always works

on everything. always.

it's the duct tape of microphones.

I can't think of anything that's not worth at least trying a 57 on actually.
